They changed the rule when Future Nostalgia and Chromatica were released and allowed some songs to be submitted there.

It was true, that rule was implemented in the 2012 ceremony but in more recent years theyve been more lenient to popstars again. Some won in featuring with producers and Gaga & Dua were accepted to submit their work in dance recording in 2021 (probably wouldve made in straight vote). But Beyonce was the first popstar since the overhaul to enter and win the field with her own work.
