Renaissance was more deserving but Harry’s House is still a great album imo so I’m still happy. Very pleased to see Harry receive a GF award at least.

February 6, 2023 at 2:07 am #1205293703Also Harry losing ROTY and SOTY, but then taking AOTY doesn’t make much sense either.

As odd as it feels to go from Billie Eilish’s sweep of just 3 years ago to so much wealth spread, it did contribute to the generally supportive atmosphere. And the major headline appears to be Beyoncé setting a record of 32 Grammys, so, from such diffuse results, it’s really nice to have that as the biggest story.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 3:15 am #1205293781Beyoncé is so far ahead of everyone in terms of wins. I don’t think any of the other female popstars have a realistic chance of catching up lol
1. Beyoncé 32

2. Adele 16
3. Lady Gaga 13
4. Taylor Swift 12
5. Rihanna 9
6. Billie Eilish 7
7. Lizzo 4February 6, 2023 at 3:50 am #1205293815I just want to call out that last year when I said Adele wasn’t sweeping, likely not winning many I got called an idiot by so many people on here and basically stopped posting for a while because it was just people screaming how Adele was going to win everything again.
There wasn’t an urgency for her to win. Can she win in the general field again? Of course! But people weren’t voting her their top pick again for a third era in a row without much creative change.
I’m super disappointed that Renaissance didn’t win, but there are so many old school voters that see the credit list and don’t value that certain genres of music sample heavily and she is properly crediting those individuals. You can’t tell me Harry Styles is any more creatively involved with his albums. I don’t see either of them sitting down and putting pen to paper to write them or working that closely with the engineers until final approvals. That doesn’t mean either album isn’t great, but I felt Beyoncé’s was trying to do more and succeeded and Harry’s was more of the same Harry just with more budget.
I’m surprised Brandi didn’t pull off the win after the Bonnie win, but overall pretty solid winners. My only swap would have been a Mary J Blige win (she looked really sad) for R&B Album or Song and Renaissance AOTY.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:05 am #1205293869Mary J probably was watching the Pre Show and saw she lost 3 of the R&B Categories or was informed she did. She was over it when she got to the red carpet. She still has 9 GRAMMYs to her name so it’s still sweet. She had an amazing era overall .
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:09 am #1205293873Beyoncé probably gotta win AOTY if she’s the only writer, producer, and engineer 🙄
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:11 am #1205293875Honey, they did my girl Mary J. Blige so dirrty. She should’ve won Best R&B Album.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:12 am #1205293877Lizzo lost!!!!! Silk and Sonic lost!!!
They’re not biased against black artists. If a black artist makes a safe, boring album (see: Jon Batiste) or boring music (see: Silk Sonic) they can win. Innovative music from black musicians that challenge genres and are far more “urban” have a hard time breaking through. It’s a genre bias, not a race one.
How can it be dismissed as genre bias when these explicitly racist decision happen within the genre fields too? The fact that Macklemore won best rap album over Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city tells you everything you need to know about the Grammys. Irrespective of this, the fact that they choose to repeatedly award ‘safe and boring’ music completely invalidates their claim to represent musical excellence anyway.

February 6, 2023 at 5:16 am #1205293880Dear Grammys,
Its 2023. You have Taylor, Adele, Beyonce and Harry in Song of the Year. And then you give it to…Bonnie Raitt?
BONNIE FORKING RAITT?
What, she doesn’t have enough Grammys? I find her winning this, in 2023 insanely, stupendously offensive. The Recording Academy just rubberstamps these people just like the Oscars namecheck Diane Warren every single time because she’s Diane Warren. They’re so stuck in the past its sad.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:23 am #1205293888I mean, one older artist winning on the main broadcast I think is perfectly fine. It shows they’re not dismissing someone because they are of a certain age. Just because you don’t listen to Bonnie Raitt, doesn’t mean she’s not relevant.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 5:25 am #1205293890Bonnie Raitt gagged everyone I’m here for it lol !
