The Beyhive need to chill on Muni Long though because she won fair and square. Hrs and Hrs was one of the most talked about R&B songs of the eligibility period. That tik tok clout carried her to Grammy Glory.

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 10:23 am #1205294365Beyonce can seemingly care less that she lost AOTY its her fans that get pissed off. Same for Taylor and Adele fans. Will throw Lizzo fans in the group too. Artists having fun and do not care and fans getting irrationally mad baffles me

ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 10:36 am #1205294387predicting lizzo would win big at the grammys especially after she pulled an upset at the emmys, winning over rupaul’s streak. lizzo is having a moment with the industry for whatever reason that no one knows
Lizzo gives underrepresented groups in the media historical positive representation. And I’m not referring to just body positivity. She’s the first black woman to win ROTY since Whitney Houston 19 years ago.
Being a flutist, she’s respected as a real musician and “not just a popstar”.
She appeals to various demographics because she oozes charisma and likability. Last night’s ceremony was getting kinda boring until she changed the energy in the room with her speech.
The reasons are many and they all seem very clear.

This is a 20% increase in viewership compared to last year.

The last time a male British singer won aoty was Eric Clapton 33 years ago.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 10:44 am #1205294402Not trying to sound bitter but I think this is the most underwhelming quartet of winner in recent memory. Wouldn’t have been at all upset about As It Was winning Song/Record but I fail to see what makes Harry’s House AOTY worthy. Samara is fine, didn’t really care about that category at all this year so it’s whatever. About Damn Time is cute but ROTY? Really? I don’t have a problem with non-commercial songs winning in the big 4 but Just Like That isn’t good. I struggle to think of another time where I’ve been indifferent or straight up against all the winners of the big 4.

February 6, 2023 at 10:59 am #1205294420I’m not a Harry fan, but fuck that lady fan announcing his win just MELTS MY HEART. I think I’ve watched it 40,000 times.

Its 2023. You have Taylor, Adele, Beyonce and Harry in Song of the Year. And then you give it to…Bonnie Raitt?
BONNIE FORKING RAITT?
What, she doesn’t have enough Grammys? I find her winning this, in 2023 insanely, stupendously offensive. The Recording Academy just rubberstamps these people just like the Oscars namecheck Diane Warren every single time because she’s Diane Warren. They’re so stuck in the past its sad.
Give a musical legend like Bonnie Raitt more respect than that. Now that I’ve actually listened to “Just Like That,” it’s a devastating song and a richly deserved songwriting winner. I thought it had absolutely no chance, so I didn’t bother trying it out beforehand. That’s on me. But doing what you’re doing is particularly ageist and crass. Grow up.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 11:30 am #1205294483Taylor will win SOTY but it may be in the far future. She may even win for a song she writes for someone else. Maybe write a song for a movie that does very well?
Regardless what you think of her, she would make a worthy SOTY winner. It’s bizarre that someone so well known for her songwriting skills hasn’t won this award.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 11:56 am #1205294530I have to say I really enjoyed this ceremony. The winners (if we forget AOTY) are great. Performances sucked but I think this year they focused all on awards and I want it to be like this every year. I would put even 15 categories in the main telecast and only 10 performances. Let’s do it like Oscars/Golden Globes. The stage and visual theme were amazing. It really looked like the most important night for music. I’m happy so many A-list artists attended. It was a great year for the Grammys.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 12:21 pm #1205294560i mean, i’d venture that there were fewer performances b/c fewer relevant people wanted to do it.
adele, taylor, and beyonce were there but didn’t feel like doing a show. or further general field nominees kendrick, doja, abba.

the grammys really pulled out all the stops to make sure people wouldn’t get mad at beyonce losing. they praised her every other second during the show for breaking the record and had a cute grandma to read off harrys name 😭 i wouldn’t be surprised if they planned it that way
