While certain aspects of this year flopped and Goldderby people are going to be annoying asf over their favs, can we just appreciate the amount of artistry this eligibility period? Silk Sonic (more Bruno Mars), Adele, and Kendrick Lamar dropped albums. Harry Styles is releasing tonight. And Lizzo is dropping in the summer. I think we won with the current state of music.

May 19, 2022 at 9:15 pm #1204957387Adele’s album has an 88 on Metacritic with 23 reviews and ended up #16 on the YE lists. This is not the “massive acclaim magnum opus” narrative that is being pushed by Adele stans. This is the general acclaim expected from MPG’s. Keep in mind, Adele was highly anticipated and EOM was a hit. I have no idea what her past acclaim is like but even if this is her best, it’s nowhere near some of the most acclaimed effort. If she had released even earlier, she’d be even lower because recency contributed to the acclaim.
For context, Billie’s HTE is 86 on Metacritic with 27 reviews and ended up #18 on the YE lists and people on this forum widely considered it underwhelming. So, let’s not be logically inconsistent here.
Oh shut up. Adele’s year-end rankings had more to do with it being a late release than anything else. The album still gave Adele her best reviews, and that’s just factual. Most, if not, all of her reviews have pointed out that it’s her best, most consistent and most diverse album to date.
This attempt at the Swifties to discredit everything about the 30 era is lame and desperate.

The way you guys cannot counter a single point. Somebody’s personal best doesn’t mean the best in general or the best of the year or the best in a lineup. I gave you the actual factual proof of where she stands in the acclaim department.
Being objective isn’t discrediting her. She IS acclaimed but there are tiers here. This may or may not affect her Grammy chances, that remains to be seen. It’s not a good idea to be so far up somebody’s ass that any amount of objectivity feels like a personal attack.
May 20, 2022 at 12:36 am #1204957527haven’t listened to harry’s house (and probably wont lol) but i can say this: he’s not beating adele in the pop field

And then I’m told that she’s winning because there’s no competition lol. If you can tell she’ll win without listening to her strongest competition, then she’s not winning on merit, she’s winning on name checking.
I agree that she’s winning. I just think it’s disingenuous to act like there’s anything Harry, or any other artist, could release, that would beat her.

TBA
TBAAs mentioned before on this thread, BNA is so hard to even think of just 5 contenders, never mind 10.
BPVA:
30 – Adele
Harry’s House – Harry Styles
= – Ed Sheeran
TBA
TBAThis category is very weak so far and we all know Adele is locked to win anyway. Lizzo’s upcoming album could take the 4th spot if it’s actually submitted to pop, the 5th slot is either going to go to a yet-to-be released album or something like Familia by Camila Cabello. Perhaps Post Malone’s upcoming album, but I don’t know if that’s even going to be sent to pop.
BPSP:
Easy On Me – Adele
As It Was – Harry Styles
About Damn Time – Lizzo
Ghost – Justin Bieber
Hold My Hand – Lady GagaBPDGP:
Sweetest Pie – Megan Thee Stallion & Dua Lipa
Enemy – Imagine Dragons & JID
My Universe – Coldplay & BTS
Bam Bam – Camila Cabello ft. Ed SheeranBDPGP is looking even weaker than BPVA tbh. Perhaps a pop feature on Lizzo’s album like Harry could save the day?
