Okay so Latto just became the second female rapper to win Best New Artist at the BET Awards after Nicki Minaj won 12 years ago. So it’s safe to say that Latto has a BNA nomination lock for the upcoming Grammys

Stream “emails I can’t send” by Sabrina Carpenter!!

in all honesty, while I do think Muni Long and Latto deserves nominations, the Grammys have been spotty for nominating BNA talent from the BET awards. For instance, look at this Wikipedia page from the Grammys and you tell me if people have been nominated and won.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BET_Award_for_Best_New_Artist

actually in the past 3 years, only one artist in the BNA category was nominated in BNA for the Grammys: Lil Nas X (who was snubbed ironically this year)

My goodness, Drake is shaping up to become Billboard’s top artist 2020s. 5 No1 songs, 3 No1 albums, 31 top 10 songs, and 53 charting songs this decade already! Man’s got juju.

Swift has 4 No1 albums, 3 No1 singles, 6 top 10s and 68 charting songs. Once again, second so far.

The Weekend or Morgan could be third. While BL & SYT together spent over 100wks in the top 10. Morgan’s album alone spent 79wks top ten. Weighing as much as 790 top 10 weeks on hot 100. The weekend’s 3 albums and other charting songs could catch up.

While Republic artists perform poorly at the Grammys, they’ve declared war on the charts. I expect Olivia, Harry, Dua, Doja & Billie 6th-10th in any order. BTS could have replaced someone but I highly doubt it but Grange or LNX could. Harry’s successful $90m-to-date tour will likely earn him more points than I imagine.

Harry so far has 2 N1 albums and 2 N1 songs plus 4 top tens

Fine Line had 1 week N1 in 2019 and 1 in 2020, all his singles peaked and charted mostly in 2020 and after

Ahhh, that’s true. Doja’s long-legged debut era also peaked in the 2020’s, coupled with the ever-successful Planet Her and her strong social media engagement (via TikTok), she’s another artist I could even be underestimating.

Me: Listening to my AEWSS vinyl. Barely 100k debut, only 4 top 10 weeks, disappeared from the charts.

Drake is slowing down, though. He’ll continue to have success, but he’s going to be heading into his 40s this decade. This album probably won’t hold up as well as his others. I think he has a couple more hit albums in him, but as far as being the artist of this decade, I doubt it. We still have eight years left.

Her debut album was Amala, which came out in 2018. I know it made very little mainstream noise outside of its deluxe tracks, but I mention it because it’s still possibly her best album.

We got 7 1/2 years to go. So, the biggest artist of the decade arguments don’t hold much weight. Hell, the biggest selling artist of the decade may be someone who’s right now an unknown.

We’re discussing biggest artists of the 2020s so far. Not predicting who ends up becoming the biggest.
