Taylor isn’t a pop favorite, but on paper Midnights is her best chance in the pop field since 1989. A true pop album with a massive hit, but I can’t see her winning BPVA if Anti-Hero is her only hit and other albums have multiple (which I could easily see Dua, Olivia, and Miley doing). BPSP she has a stronger chance because Anti-Hero is a huge hit that fits the BPSP normal strategy (number 1 hit with lots of streams, and they normally go for something dance-ish or a ballad and Anti-Hero is kinda a combo of that)

i definitely don’t think she is a pop favourite. lady gaga and adele are the only pop favourites we have. i said all that as proof that she isn’t disliked or someone whose that weak. to have the most nominations for pop solo vs miley whose only been nominated once? Also i agree that pop album wins you should have hits but i don’t think she needs another anti hero sized hit. Harry’s house just has as it was. Sure music for a sushi restaurant and late night talking did well too but they’re around the same lvl of hits as lavender haze streaming wise.

And I don’t think olivia and miley will “easily” have multiple hits lets be real. its not that easy. Though for Dua I can because she’s proved time and time again,

As It Was wasn’t only significantly bigger than Anti-Hero, it also had much more longevity, on streaming as well as on radio.
Anti-Hero is already out of the top 10 on Spotify, and is down to #7 on pop radio where it’s being dropped like a rock.

Late Night Talk was also a #1 on pop radio, whereas Lavender Haze only reached #11.
So for those older voters that mostly consume music through radio, Harry’s House most certainly had multiple hits.

Obviously As It Was is significantly bigger. I’m not trying to compare midnights to it in every miniscule detail. Anti-Hero is still doing very well on streaming. Day to day comparsion with Easy on Me, the former is outstreaming daily by 200k. It’s a bigger streaming hit that Easy on Me in the US. And in terms of lavender haze it’s also just reached top 20 of overall radio. It’s a song that peaked at no. 2 and will chart for 20-25+ weeks. It will also have outstreamed late night talking this time next year or the same streams. That is still a decent hit. Therefore, Anti-Hero objectively won’t be her only hit and thats what the OP was saying will be her deterrent.

Swift isn’t winning shit. It took her a massive Oscars level campaign to win a mere Music Video award, and her new album doesn’t even have a tenth of that kind of push. She’ll get the usual filler nominations and then lose all of them. She’s the new Katy Perry of the Grammys, just slightly above.

No, Taylor Swift & Ariana Grande are the new P!nk & Kelly Clarkson of the Pop field.

The new Katy Perry is Post Malone.

Ava Max is ineligible for Best New Artist. She’s been submitted 3 times already

Not something I’m mad at! I don’t think she had a chance, but I’ll remove her from my possibilities going forward!

if Ariana couldn’t get a SOTY nomination for thank u next, i don’t see how this is locked for Miley Cyrus be serious. A ROTY might be on lock though.

In Ariana’s defence, thank u, next was in the era of the Blue Rippon panel. 6/8 of the eventual nominees were traditionally ballads with the other being more straightforward pop hits from sweepers that year (Bad Guy & Truth Hurts).

Deborah Dugan has gone on record that both Thank U, Next and Beautiful People were in the top 8 of the popular vote and taken out by the panel.

Corrupt Columbia is gonna buy some categories for Miley , I mean, they already invested in streaming farms and payola + all their main artists already competed this year.

OR2 is rumored to be released in the Q2, while Dua’s dancers are already rehearsing (perhaps for a music video). It’s over for your faves

Looking at the 2023 AOTY winner, we can observe that 1) for the second year since the Grammys dropped the 33% playing time rule for submissions, the voters chose an album with a reasonably small number of nominated contributors, while this year, the media favourite was an album with many more, and 2) a safe album with strong sales, won over a more acclaimed album.

Re-run this same scenario in 2024 and you have Midnights beating SOS.

Of course there’s a few differences as well, but after this year’s win we shouldn’t be surprised.

The pop categories could be stacked this year, what if Miley ends up missing 😂

Am with Gucci on the one the way the voter say Beyoncé and Adele have had enough trophies they will give Taylor the pop votes and no general field. Taylor has never won aoty twice in a roll but with these voters u never know.

zimmerman is dead last in the ballot probably, he has a very low chance.

ethel cain however, is pretty early in the ballot, if she does release a deluxe version of preacher’s daughter or, even a new ep or something? just multiple songs honestly, she might earn a nomination, and i’d be very happy.
