In other news, the deluxe version of R.A.M would be dropping in May. If there was ever a year for a deluxe edition to win AOTY, it’s this year. No current release stands out…to me.
Daft Punk won’t submit the Random Access Memories deluxe edition because it already won AOTY last 2014.
March 28, 2023 at 7:59 pm #1205367553Honey, the General Field nominees will be abysmal (even worse than last year). YUCK!
March 28, 2023 at 8:58 pm #1205367601I think it all depends on one’s social circle and attention mechanism. Both 24K Magic & LTDO are very much relevant in my own circle.
I liked Melodrama too but on a closer look, it never really resonated with the GP either in the past or present. In fact, neither Pure Heroine’s nor Melodrama’s current daily streams nears 24K Magic’s.
Additionally, the industry not only chose 24K Magic over Melodrama, they reinforced their decision with LTDO.
To be fair, by musical and cultural relevance, I meant how many artists and trends has it influenced in the future. Everyday, there’s a new artists popping up saying they’re inspired by Pure Heroine or Lorde’s aesthetic. It really shaped up a landscape that cannot be quantified by streams. “Dance Monkey” is the most streamed song of all time and that doesn’t say anything about its cultural relevance or impact. Streams are an incomplete measure of success.
The industry loves Bruno Mars and we can agree on that and I don’t wanna devolve this into a bruno-hating post cause I don’t. That man is uber talented. But I personally don’t think a lot of his music, especially the Grammy winning one has stuck around as much as some other winners.
March 29, 2023 at 1:15 am #1205367719It would be epic if Jack Antonoff gets his first Record of the Year with Anti-Hero which he could achieve of winning all 4 General Field awards.
March 29, 2023 at 1:45 am #1205367734There is no reason to give ROTY to Anti-Hero. It’s not even the biggest hit from eligible songs so far and we still don’t know this year’s summer hits. The song isn’t a production masterpice neither. No way it will win.

Then why many artists such as Nicki, Ed, and The Weeknd had showed praise and love with Anti-Hero recently?
It is totally her biggest hit since Blank Space.
She’s definitely taking ROTY.

Well, I wouldn’t have responded if I thought you hated Bruno. It’d only be a waste of time. I’m not blind to Bruno’s shortcomings, my response was to establish that one person’s beliefs doesn’t make an objective reality. But I guess I read wrongly. The keyword “personal” now validates your opinions.
Its just that users kinda reason inductively and they love whom they want to, then find reasons to back it up, opposed to loving the artists for those reasons. The incongruity shows when the same users rave about another artist who glaringly defies their conditions.
I’m not exonerated ofc but speaking for oneself makes all the difference.
March 29, 2023 at 5:09 am #1205367836Swift isn’t winning SOTY or ROTY. Her best shot is Best Pop Vocal Album and even for that she’s on shaky grounds.

“Best pop song ever written”
« It’s me, hi!, i’m the problem, it’s me »
« sexy baby »
« I’m a monster on the hill » ☠️
I love her but this song is one of her worst lyrically

We’ll see about that once the eligibility period is over by end of August.
March 29, 2023 at 6:06 am #1205367870<p style=”text-align: left;”>Antihero is not winning Soty or Roty…I mean swift has probably not even been Runner-up in either category despite having bigger songs than it…we go through this every time when swift releases and she always loses to a bigger or baitier song…</p>

You’re my person but c’mon.

Yeah I know I hated her for a long time, but I’m okay now. It’s her insufferable fans the problem
March 29, 2023 at 6:24 am #1205367889In defense of Tay… The lyrics make more sense within the whole concept of the song. I know Bonnie Raitt’s win with a more mature lyrical theme says a lot about the academy’s choices but come on, let’s not pretend they didn’t give SOTY to “Make your mama sad type.
Make your girlfriend mad tight
Might seduce your dad type” for the sake of tying an absurd record.Hi.
March 29, 2023 at 7:36 am #1205367912i still feel like kill bill will be a heavy contender for soty and roty in the same vein as bad guy
