Couldn’t see a thread on this already, so I thought I’d start it off!

We’re now over halfway through the eligibility period, so what do you think are the current frontrunners in the pop field?

The only safe locks I have for now in BPVA are Midnights and Subtract. I know the latter is yet to be released, but Ed always gets into BPVA and the fact this is a very personal album makes it even more guaranteed.

    My current predictions…

    Best Pop Vocal Album:
    – Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd – Lana Del Rey (might go Alternative instead though, I’m not sure)
    – Endless Summer Vacation – Miley Cyrus
    – Gloria – Sam Smith
    – Midnights – Taylor Swift
    – Subtract – Ed Sheeran

    Best Pop Solo Performance:
    – Anti-Hero – Taylor Swift
    – Eyes Closed – Ed Sheeran
    – Flowers – Miley Cyrus
    – Kill Bill – SZA

    Best Pop Duo/Group Performance:
    – Boy’s a liar Pt. 2 – PinkPantheress & Ice Spice
    – Escapism. – RAYE ft. 070 Shake
    – I’m Not Here to Make Friends – Sam Smith ft. Calvin Harris & Jessie Reyez
    – Special – Lizzo ft. SZA
    – Thousand Miles – Miley Cyrus ft. Brandi Carlile

We still have five months to go until the end of the eligibility period, and I’m hopeful we will have some more frontrunners in that time. Dua Lipa and Olivia Rodrigo are both highly anticipated to drop new material soon, so perhaps they’ll be strong contenders. Billie Eilish might also drop, as well as Doja Cat, but I’m not sure if Doja will even be in the pop conversation as she has said she’s going more rap with this next project.

Honey, wrong!  Ed Sheeran does NOT always get in Best Pop Vocal Album.  He just missed for = (thank goodness!).

Lift Me Up could well get in if it’s a weak category. I can’t see Made You Look getting in though, but who knows?

I expect Olivia and Dua’s lead singles to be in BPSP if they come out by the end of August, so it’ll probably likely be Taylor vs. Ed vs. Miley vs. Dua vs. Olivia.

Get real!  Meghan Trainor is NOT happening in Best Pop Solo Performance.  “Made You Look” is completely forgotten.

“Made You Look” was a pretty big hit for Meghan Trainor these days. It’s probably her most notable song in a while. Definitely not forgotten & I’d say reasonably predicted for the lack of strong contenders so far.

Exactly. It’ll probably be replaced by a bigger hit by the end of August, but as for right now, I’m predicting it.

Honey, some random, obscure flop will get in Best Pop Solo Performance before “Made You Look.”  Facts are facts!

That pop duo lineup is not happening. Too many non-hits/album tracks for what is the most hit-based Grammy category.

My top 5 right now would be:
    – Boy’s A Liar
    – Calm Down
    – Creepin’
    – Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53
    – Snow On The Beach

Boy’s A Liar and Snow On The Beach feel like the only strong solid contenders for a nomination.
I put the Shakira song on there because it was a big MOMENT within the Latin community, who have proven to be decently impactful with the Un Dia and Moscow Mule nominations, and Bizarrap is high on the list.
Selena Gomez is Grammy poison but Calm Down is a big hit (although it would need a live version to be eligible).
Creepin’ is a wild card because Metro is kinda low on the list, but it is a big big hit so it’s def in the conversation right now. It could be submitted to R&B Performance or Melodic Rap though…

Escapism would be my #6, but I’m down on it. It did not even manage to go top 20. It will def be forgotten as hell by nominations time.

Bizarrap could submit his collaboration with Shakira to Best Dance/Electronic Recording. If submitted to BPD/GP, it’s in.

Calm Down is not eligible… yet. And the Swift + Del Rey “collaboration” is definitely not going to be accepted as a duo/group by the Recording Academy.

I’m starting to think Creepin’ is indeed going to be submitted for BPD/GP. Metro should have 3-4 nominations.

And the Swift + Del Rey “collaboration” is definitely not going to be accepted as a duo/group by the Recording Academy.

I don’t see why it shouldn’t. I mean it is more of a duo song than something like “The Middle” or “Stay” (by Zedd & Alessia Cara). If you’re going off “I Bet You Think About Me”‘s Country Solo submission then I think that was Taylor herself doing category fraud than the Grammys moving it.

In 2022 LNX submitted “One Of Me” to Pop Duo where all Elton John does is play the piano for 15 seconds. In 2020 Lady Gaga submitted “I’ll Never Love Again” to Pop Duo where all Bradley Cooper does is sing for 10 seconds at the end of the song… so there is definitely no rule that would disallow “Snow On The Beach”.

I get your point, but I don’t think these are comparable to Snow On The Beach. Lana isn’t playing any instrument on the track and we barely hear her voice. She’s just not there. Even Stapleton’s voice was more audible.

I could be wrong, but I’m not counting on it. Even if it’s eligible.

For pop album i see Taylor winning it. Miley taking first grammy for flowers. This song is taking all generations, my lil sister is singing flowers in her kindergarten concert while grandmas singing it in the kitchen while cooking. It’s such a weak year for best pop duo performance YET, probably boys a liar is frontrunner since only hits win this category lately. Hope Miley will stop being lazy and make a music video or something for Thousand Miles cause i surprisingly enjoyed this album after seeing how everyone hates it and this song has beautiful meaning after hearing the story on her backyard sessions about this song. Not everyone will get it, but when you get it – it hits you deeply. Depression sucks

I feel like Rihanna’s Lift Me Up would get in Pop Solo before Meghan.
    1. Bigger star
    2. Slight ballot advantage
