I also think it’s crazy that no country or rap albums in AOTY, for two years in a row, is just a casual fact.
Rap underperforming wasn’t shocking. It hasn’t been as strong of a year for Rap/Country as it’s been for Pop or Alternative music. However, Coldplay getting a nomination over Run The Jewels is shameless.
November 25, 2020 at 6:05 am #1203871229Do you think that Taylor should submit Exile to ROTY instead of Cardigan.
November 25, 2020 at 6:06 am #1203871231The BRP protects the show from becoming a popularity based contest. You have a bunch of shows from AMAS to BBMAS to VMAS. Every show serves a different purpose, Grammys as the most respected is trying to create a space for music, outside these fanservice circles.
So keep the genre committees, which are not the BRP. I wasn’t really too serious, although shrinking the amount of awards and making it a true best of the best would add more prestige imo.
November 25, 2020 at 6:06 am #1203871233I have yet to see someone say she isn’t one of the most privileged people in the industry.
I have not seen one (1) of the oblivious Swift fans acknowledge that, please.
Did I say she didn’t deserve the AOTY nomination this year? No. She crafts music specifically for Grammy attention (which she said in her documentary) so I’d hope by this point she’d be good at it. cardigan did not deserve its nominations though, sorry. Other than a #1 debut that was off the surprise album drop and the multiple versions sold, it didn’t do anything that songs that get into pop solo are supposed to do. I’ve literally never heard the Beautiful Ghosts song so idk what to think of that nomination. The only justifiable nominations were Pop Vocal and AOTY.

you’ve just said cardigan didn’t deserve nominations and then said anything but why… i’m not even anything close to a swiftie but stop being ridiculous
November 25, 2020 at 6:11 am #1203871242Honey, giving Billie Eilish Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance nominations back-t0-back is way too much. BARF!
November 25, 2020 at 6:11 am #1203871244This is quite fishy seeing Scooter Braun makes such comment regarding Abel’s snub
For you consideration :
Album of the year : folklore
Record of the year : Don't Start Now
Song of the year : cardigan
Best new artist : Phoebe BridgersBest pop vocal album : folklore
Best rap album : Alfredo
Best alternative music album : Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Best progressive R&B album : Ungodly HourNovember 25, 2020 at 6:11 am #1203871246Moriahface makings case why Taylor got all these noms, but doesn’t ask how flop panned forgotten Bieber album and songs hit 3/3 in pop categories.
November 25, 2020 at 6:14 am #1203871248I said it in the past and i am saying it again. Cardigan is one of the finest song of the year and it deserves its nominations. Ok it tanked on charts, so did black parade, i can’t breathe and others. Why don’t @moriahface say about this?

there’s really no reason for country and rap to have ZERO this year. as you said, it’s just shameless.
November 25, 2020 at 6:16 am #1203871254Billboard 200 This week

This album was nominated in best pop vocal album and was also panned. Re-Count the votes !!!

This is a pretty weak argument. Regardless, your thoughts about cardigan and all is your personal opinion but just because you’ve not heard a song doesn’t make it any less deserving. BG is a flawless song, I’d even say it’s better than cardigan, perhaps you should listen to it. As far as I’m concerned, commercial success shouldn’t factor much into the Grammy decisions whatsoever. Folklore’s campaign was around its storytelling and songwriting, arguably Taylor’s best parts and not with whatever commercial success it achieved. Fans bragging about it is a different scene altogether. And it’s very disrespectful to diminish anyone’s art the way you do by reducing her work to just grammy nominations. Like every other artist who campaigned their ass of this year, she looks for grammys for validation too. She didn’t say she crafted her work for the grammys, she just said she’d make a better record, which is a shame because she’s Taylor fucking swift and she still looks towards the grammys to tell her which one of her albums is good but we all have our insecurities. It’s like she’s not even a person to some of y’all. Have you ever wondered why she has such a huge fan base? It’s because her music is honest as fuck, it’s been a part of our lives for a good decade now. She’s completely involved in the creative process and just because she looks towards the grammys for validation doesn’t mean she doesn’t work her ass off on ever album so please miss me with this demeaning argument. The rest all of it is just your personal opinion. Get over your inherent biases and some of her delusional fans and look at her the albums as just pieces of art, I’m sure you’ll have a change of heart.

Check the other artists who have a massive nomination history: Jay-Z, Kanye, Beyonce, U2, Bruce Springsteen,… not every nomination of them is attached to a strong chart performance.
November 25, 2020 at 6:18 am #1203871266moriah just mad her precious harry got none AoTY nod for Fine Line
November 25, 2020 at 6:18 am #1203871268ROTY, SOTY and BPSP all being so close really makes up for the landslide that BPDG, BPVA and AOTY will be. I’ve been thinking about how EIW and Cardigan could take votes from one another leading to Dua taking SOTY + BPSP while Billie takes ROTY but I’m really not sure.
