The original final eight before BRP interference :
– folklore
– Future Nostalgia
– Hollywood’s Bleeding
– Chilombo
– Fetch the Bolt Cutters
– Please Excuse Me For Being Antisocial
– Jaime
– Fine Line
pretty amazing line up tbh.
Congratulations Taylor Swift on 6 Grammy Nominations
Album of the Year: folklore
Song of the Year: cardigan
Pop Solo Performance: cardigan
Pop Duo/Group Performance: exile feat. Bon Iver
Pop Vocal Album: folklore
Song Written for Visual Media: Beautiful GhostsNovember 27, 2020 at 5:08 pm #1203878432I find it hard to believe Roddy was top 8 tbh. I think the categories with a BRP have low voter turnout.
The top 20 is probably dominated by pop & alt.
Maybe a rap and r&b album or two sneak in and a few from other categories.
I’m thinking:
6 pop
6 alt
2 rap
2 R&B
1 country
3 other categoryFYC:
Dynamite | BTS - BPDGP
November 27, 2020 at 6:05 pm #1203878488As the Year End Lists are starting to come out it’s clear that The Weeknd had no support within the industry. He wasn’t in Time Magazine, The New Yorker, MOJO. How do you all explain this? For a guy who had supposedly one of the most “acclaimed” albums this year. I expect him to not make it in on several more publications.
Blinding Lights should have been nominated, but After Hours is nowhere near as acclaimed as people say it was.
November 27, 2020 at 6:17 pm #1203878499from after hours I’ve only listened to Blinding and In your eyes lol
for some reason, I think the whole album sounds the same and is about the same topic
November 27, 2020 at 6:23 pm #1203878513Why did not Taylor Swift put exile in SOTY instead of Cardigan? Sure it’s the bigger track, but if that was the lead single. Her and her boyfriend would have had matching Grammys 🥴🥴

Agreed. While it’s my favorite of the year, I think the shock was not having Fiona, THEE biggest critically acclaimed album since it was released. Again, the Grammys really did have a weak AOTY category when it’s been all said and done because there are far better albums that came out this year that were daring and pushed the envelope. The Weeknd gave us a great storylines album and aesthetic.

I strongly disagree with this. Post Malone didn’t even get into Pop Album on a straight vote and Roddy also missed Rap Album.

AOTY: folklore
ROTY: Savage (Remix)
SOTY: Don’t Start Now
BNA: Megan Thee StallionNovember 27, 2020 at 7:07 pm #1203878612I agree with Elias. Fiona not getting in is absolutely insane and it hasn’t been as discussed because of Abel overshadowing it. Fiona must have gotten into the top 20 (assuming HAIM did) because she beat them in a straight vote category. I guess they just didn’t like it???
FYC:
Taylor Swift- AOTY, SOTY, Pop Duo/Group Performance, Pop Vocal Album
Phoebe Bridgers- BNA, Rock Song, Rock Performance, Alternative Album
Dua Lipa- ROTY, Pop Solo Performance
Chloe x Halle- Traditional R&B Performance, R&B Song, Progressive R&B Album

Or maybe they just wanted to set up an easy Taylor win. The BRP does that a lot, and I can understand the frustrations there.
November 27, 2020 at 7:34 pm #1203878661I can’t believe that 30 years into his career Nas is still putting out incredible music and about to win a Grammy. Phenomenal.
November 27, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203878689I disagree that the subtraction of Fiona and Abel have out of the AOTY discussion was made to benefit Taylor, in actually it made it a double edged sword. Dua is showned to be extremely loved by the Grammys. The fact that she’s in all 6 and Taylor missed ROTY is kind of telling. Also Post Malone is also a pretty huge name even in the pop realm. While it did not get any support, Austin really did overperform again with 3 GF nominations. Also, it’s telling that Fine Line, another pop rock excursion is not there. Rock voters probably voted in Black Pumas. Alternative gave HAIM the nomination in response to the lack of genre support and will get a sizable amount of votes. It’s hard to tell where Taylor benefitted when you add the “genre darlings” and huge pop albums with similar or bigger commercial or bigger critical acclaim.
