What are some songs that speak on issues related to the LGBTQ+ community, or pride anthems in general?

VISIONS OF BODIES BEING BURNEDJune 28, 2020 at 5:20 pm #1203556128Last please listen to SOPHIE’s Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides. It’s a fantastic listen towards accepting yourself and a trans women’s journey to find that.
Faceshopping and Ponyboy go so hard.

Because I’m sure 80% of them are about the same boy. And if they don’t then The Story.
Channel and Forrest Gump by Frank Ocean
Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America – The 1975
Bad at Love and Strangers – Halsey because bisexuals also deserve to be validated.
Pretty much everything Hayley Kiyoko. What I Need and Curious slap.
I Want to Break Free, Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen, because Freddy Mercury.
Diplomat’s Son – Vampire Weekend, the actual description of the song by them is “a six minute dance hall song about a gay relationship” and I think that’s beautiful. It’s kind of an acquired taste since the production is a bit hard to get into.
Michael – Franz Ferdinand because bisexuals 🤷🏼♂️ also he’s probably the most violent bisexual person I’ve ever seen, I’ve yet to find the interview about him saying he’s bisexual tho, but the fanbase says he is so either everyone is collectively hallucinating or it disappeared form the internet.
People also say Hand in Glove by The Smiths but I’m still unsure on that one. Morrisey has always been very ambiguous about his sexuality. But who knows. And I would recommend to check some of their albums since fans say if you read between the lines many songs tend to be about gay endeavors, There’s a Light That Never Goes Out is a good one to start with the detective skills.
I saw once on reddit someone say Mann Gegen Mann by Rammstein and I had to look it up. My German is a bit rusty since I haven’t spoken it since I graduated high school, but yeah it’s about the view of gay man and criticizes homophobia to some extent. And the video pretty much gives the theme away. Also it’s said that the inspiration behind the song came to Christoph after he had to go to every gay bar in Berlin because he lost a bet to a friend.
I would like to say Rebel Rebel by Bowie the jury is still out on that one tho but people say Starman is also an anthem because it came out because of Bowie’s flamboyant image and parents were afraid kids would take on that. But I don’t know, everyone has it’s own interpretation of Bowie’s songs.
Lola – The Kinks which talks about a trans woman.
Queen- Perfume Genius, also a lot of his discography so check it out.
Closer – Tegan and Sara (Lesbian rights!)
Walk on the Wild Side is about the NY queer scene also Bowie produced.
Isn’t I Will Survive also a gay anthem? So that too.
Go West by Village people is also supposed to be about the queer community so I guess it counts, also the video is very gay.
Elton’s Song by no other than Elton John, the song doesn’t use pronouns but it’s pretty obvious I’d say.
Medicine is an unreleased track by Mr Harry Styles and I don’t know care what anyone says but that’s his coming out song. Also the second verse is pretty straightforward.
The Danna Paola song about discovering her boyfriend is gay, that one too. Sodio I think it is.
It’s Raining Men is something I always see that’s played around this time.
Vogue by Madonna, the video is fun.
Pansy Division always sung about them being gay, so extra points. Check them out if you’re into punk/rock, Fem in a Black Leather Jacket is a nice one to start.
Dancing on My Own seems a recurrent one in the queer spectrum so another one for the lgbtq+ bingo card.
Pablo Alboran just came out as gay so I guess his songs count. They’re pretty gender neutral but some of the lyrics make more sense or take other meanings since he just confirmed his sexuality.
Girls/Girls/Boys by P!ATD is about a threesome so… sexy tho. Brendon is naked in the video so points for that.
Masseduction by St. Vincent no explanations needed.
The 1-800 song by Logic but mostly the video.
Universal Love – Wedding Songs Reimagined is a collab project which has Bob Dylan, Kesha and St. Vincent reimagining songs to adjust the pronouns depending on who sings it.
Hozier’s Take Me to Church is great too, I like his voice and the video is pretty good at portraying what the song is about.
And those are some songs and projects I like, also the 70s were very gay apparently.
