Let’s discuss this topic folks. It seems like when a female artists get caught lip syncing, they get crucified or are often seen as untalented and a generic pop stars. Sometimes these women pay the price by losing their career (Ashley Simpson). Many male artists have always lipped and it seems like they get a pass or people simply don’t care. Michael Jackson always lipped in his performances and he’s seen as the greatest pop star of all time. Madonna Is a talented artist and she has always received criticisms for using playback or lipping during her performances. Let’s be real we know Madonna can’t sing but she is a legend, her artistry and music speaks for itself. Do you think there’s a bias toward female artists?

i was just watching Lil Nas perform at the 2019 VMAs and while I love the kid and OTR was a moment last years his performance was atrocious. He couldn’t even lipsync right. Months later he wins two Grammys

Chris Brown & Justin Bieber get criticized all the time.
What this person said. But I do agree that mostly females deal with that due to sexism. But guys have also dealt with it. New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC dealt with lip sync allegations simply because they were White male vocal groups.

July 31, 2020 at 8:42 am #1203618384Dude, it doesn’t matter the race, y’all as a singer don’t get paid to lip sync.
And no, boys also get flack too, did we forget about Milli Vanili or we gonna just act like that wasn’t a thing.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 31, 2020 at 8:53 am #1203618407Well men are usually in bands, so they’re mostly live. Men who get this criticism are boy band members or Chris Brown/Jason Derulo type of guys who are obviously doing it because of their dancing (don’t know about their real voices). Which is where Madonna and Janet and others fall too.
While I firmly agree with the “men get away with everything” argument, men who perform like this are much less common than women, so obviously you’re gonna hear more criticism towards women.
And I agree with the Milli Vanilli comment. The most insane backlash towards lipsyncin ever in the history of man kind was against two men. Even Ashlee Simpson is around and still is “somebody”.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 31, 2020 at 3:31 pm #1203619340The only people who lip are popstars/artists that do choreography. And the majority of those are women. More women lip than men so it may seem like only women are called out for it.
Also the general public doesn’t care or notice. Only online stans do, and they stan… women.

Ashlee Simpson still being a “somebody”…just like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, Aaron Carter, etc. She and her husband try to be relevant when they’re not. But Milli Vanilli….we know the story behind it. This is why you don’t trust people in the music industry especially in the 20th century. Always get a lawyer unless you have a friend who’s in that label.
