How did Megan win Best New Artists without releasing an album?

First off I want to say, Megan deserved to win BNA based purely on impact, great music and just damn right having an excellent year. However I am so confused by her BNA win. In the past many new artists would be shut out the running for BNA because they didn’t debut a full length album. How did she win if she just had singles out? In this case Megan should have been nominated and the same year she was up for Record of the Year for “All About that Bass”? I feel like BNA has some of the weirdest rules and requirements. How is it someone like Noah Cyrus can be nominated when she has been in the industry for over 4 years? Also wasn’t Lady Gaga unfairly shut out the year before she won her first Grammys?

An artist must have a minimum of five singles/tracks OR a complete album to be eligible for Best New Artist. An artist hoping to be considered can also have a maximum of 30 singles/tracks OR three complete albums, previously

BNA has the weirdest rule, so the case is different for different people. As long as they’re eligible though, there’s no problem with it

yeah but that EP isn’t considered her debut Album. Good News is. It’s not even listed under her discography.

well it’s stated there “a minimum of five singles/tracks OR a complete album” and she does have 5+ singles/tracks (even without Good News)

I think this year proved to be an exception rather than the rule type of scenario in every GF category. All the GF winners were pretty much had no genre appeal by losing to other songs/albums or weren’t even nominated. They definitely went away from the mold and gave some of the most interesting GF winners in years.
