I don’t think so. Back then it was common for rock songs to prevail in record of the year, specially songs with instrumental breakdowns, which Single Ladies lacked. It was a shocker that Single Ladies even won, You Belong With Me deserved! But Single Ladies was a moment in music they needed to reward Beyoncé (and her 100 songwriters) in a big category.

What song did she submit for music video? Kinda bizarre not being Single Ladies since the video made it so iconic and won multiple VMAs including VOTY and Direction

The label submitted Sweet Dreams, one of the most bizarre moves I’ve seen for the Grammys.

That’s funny you say that since the song only had 4 writers in total

Dream on, delusional Swiftie!  “You Belong With Me” did NOT deserve to win Song of the Year.  Pure delusion.  The gorgeous “Pretty Wings” should’ve won.

wow… didn’t remember Single Ladies won that Grammy.

I remember it was the first category presented during the telecast. Beyonce wasn’t there to give speech because she was preparing for her performance.

I honestly think Beyoncé would’ve won and Halo was more SOTY type to me anyway. They should’ve reversed it .

That was too obscure and bold of them lol . Definitely should’ve did Single Ladies.

Even with the live instrumentation bias which is understandable, Single Ladies was so unique, prominent, chic and attention-grabbing that I was sure it wouldn’t loose any of its nominations.

Well executed novelties impress most musical people as much established standards. Before nominations, I assumed it would also win BMV and ROTY, totaling 8 wins.
