We’ve seen a lot of Grammys-Oscars crossover when the Oscar winner for Best Original Score and/or Best Original Song also ends up winning the Grammy, or vice versa. Occasionally, we even see the same film win the Grammy for Best Music Film and the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. But one area we’ve never seen crossover is with music videos. Obviously, music videos aren’t eligible to compete at the Oscars, and if they were, they’d have to compete as either animated or live action short films, because that is basically what they are. Let’s pretend for a moment, however, that music videos ARE eligible for Oscars, and let’s pretend that some of the Grammy winners for Best Music Video also got Oscar nominations for either Best Animated Short Film or Best Live Action Short Film. Here are all the Grammy winners for Best Music Video since the category’s creation in 1984:

Duran Duran—“Girls On Film/Hungry Like The Wolf”
 David Bowie—“Jazzin’ For Blue Jean”
USA For Africa—“We Are The World”
 Dire Straits—“Brothers In Arms”
 No award
 No award
 Michael Jackson—“Leave Me Alone”
 Paula Abdul—“Opposites Attract”
 R.E.M.—“Losing My Religion”
 Peter Gabriel—“Digging In The Dirt”
 Peter Gabriel—“Steam”
 The Rolling Stones—“Love Is Strong”
 Janet Jackson & Michael Jackson—“Scream”
 The Beatles—“Free As A Bird”
 Janet Jackson—“Got ‘Til It’s Gone”
 Madonna—“Ray Of Light”
 Korn—“Freak On A Leash”
 Foo Fighters—“Learn To Fly”
Fatboy Slim ft. Bootsy Collins—“Weapon Of Choice”
 Eminem—“Without Me”
 Johnny Cash—“Hurt”
 U2—“Vertigo”
Missy Elliott ft. Ciara & Fatman Scoop—“Lose Control”
 OK Go—“Here It Goes Again”
Johnny Cash—“God’s Gonna Cut You Down”
 Weezer—“Pork And Beans”
 Black Eyed Peas—“Boom Boom Pow”
 Lady Gaga—“Bad Romance”
 Adele—“Rolling In The Deep”
Rihanna ft. Calvin Harris—“We Found Love”
Justin Timberlake ft. Jay-Z—“Suit & Tie”
 Pharrell Williams—“Happy”
Taylor Swift ft. Kendrick Lamar—“Bad Blood”
 Beyoncé—“Formation”
 Kendrick Lamar—“Humble”
 Childish Gambino—“This Is America”
Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus—“Old Town Road”
Beyoncé & Wizkid ft. Blue Ivy Carter—“Brown Skin Girl”

Which of these music videos do you think would’ve been worthy of winning Oscars, had they been eligible? My picks include the likes of “Losing My Religion,” “Digging In The Dirt,” “Steam,” “Weapon Of Choice,” and “Hurt.” But what about all of you? Leave your thoughts below.

Johnny Cash’s “Hurt” would’ve definitely won. That video is cinematic & deeply effective.
