The Grammys are eliminating their Blue Rippon Panels / Committee reviews for a number of their categories.
The rule was put in place after the embarrassment of the 1995 ceremony, where Tony Bennett’s “MTV Unplugged” won AoTY and The Three Tenors live album nominated, over albums such as Nas’ “Illmatic” and Hole’s “Live Through This”.
Now with this reserved and the general field going back to a straight popular vote, what do you think the GF/Big 4 nominations of 1996-2020 would’ve been under this system.
For comparison’s, the only genres field to this the popular vote process were

A Star is Born: AOTYMay 30, 2021 at 11:03 am #1204279211I think Lover could’ve gotten nominated in AOTY. It came out a week before eligibility ended so it would’ve been very fresh on voters’ minds, especially with all of the promo Taylor was doing around the time of release and its commercial success. You Need To Calm Down’s Pop Solo nom seems to show that the album had support

No lol. The Weeknd couldn’t even make it into Pop Solo.

May 30, 2021 at 3:18 pm #1204279490Get real! Even if My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got in Album of the Year, it would NOT have beat the mega-selling 21. NO ONE was stopping Adele in 2011.

Absolutely. Adele quite literally won over Bruno Mars (“Doo-Wops and Hooligans”), Lady Gaga (“Born This Way”), Rihanna (“LOUD”) all monumental, career-defining albums from the biggest popstars in the world at their prime.

And of course holy sh*t the Foo Fighters who dominated the Rock Categories the same year. lmao

My bad. Because Kanye’s album was released in 2010 I thought it would be eligible for the 2011 Grammys, but as it turns out it was released in November of 2010, being eligible for the 2012 Grammys instead. In that case, I definitely agree with you that Adele wouldn’t have ever lost against Kanye lol.
My comment was far fetched, but I still kinda think MBDTF would’ve been tough competition for The Suburbs (or any other nominated album for instance) in 2011.
