They are a force! Not to be messy, but I believe MOTS:7 deserved a place in the Pop Vocal Album category.

I would have loved to see it and it would have been deserved, but I understand that the Grammys are a US centric award show and the albums nominated got more attention there than 7 did. But BTS are coming back again this year, maybe they will show even more growth in the US, here’s to hoping

I’m surprised at some of the acts missing on this list. I really think kpop companies other than BigHit for BTS and YG for BP didn’t submit. According to gaon, a korean chart , there were two albums above BP’s in physical sales Seventeen – 1.37m NCT – 1.28m BP – 1.124m You could make an argument for BP above them because of digitals which the others don;t have as much on iTunes, Amazon and because of the chinese sales but there is no way they didn’t even make the list. For reference Nr 10 on the list has 435k physical sales on Oricon, the japanese chart and nr 9 has 822k physical sales. Sure maybe stores outside of the oricon certified ones and digitals made the difference but I’m still confused that those two kpop acts didn;t make it. I think their companies didn;t submit for some reason. I’m very curious to see the numbers because last year there were a lot of issues for Map of the Soul Persona for BTS: they didn;t count any digitals for them and took their hanteo numbers and not gaon which shut out a lot of worldwide sales from outside certain countries and stores. I hope they didn’t do the same this year. Anyhow congrats to all who made it. Also BTS has 3 albums, wooow. I’m so happy for them . They killed it in 2020, they deserve all the success and more.

The other groups probably sold less digital albums than Blackpink even thought they sold a lot of physical albums. I think Blackpink sold a lot of digital albums in China

Unless BTS’s album makes more noise in the US they won’t happen .. Dynamite has opened a lot of doors for them and other Kpop acts tho. Like I can see them getting in the song categories again and if their album breaks out into the GP like dynamite did then pop noms are coming

I’m honestly hoping they get some noms for BE. It’s such a good record and is almost as acclaimed as MOTS: 7. They are doing a lot of performances for the era (more than I expected) as I thought it was going to die soon bc of the pandemic, but they surprised a lot of fans with their MTV Unplugged performance.

BTS isnt going anywhere anytime soon!!

If radio stations would actually play anything from them other than the English song Dynamite then yea they would ‘make more noise’ but since the stations are not allowed to play anything other than Dynamite … The fans have always asked for more than just Dynamite to be played but rarely do they play anything else.

(Personally I don’t listen to radio anymore because of the massive payola involved. I have my own ‘station’ I created with over 1600 songs that go on shuffle that I listen to either in my office or car or plane or where ever. If I don’t like an artist or song then it just does not go on my playlist and I can fastforward anytime I want to thru a song.)

The numbers are a mess but it doesn;t suprise me after what they did last year with BTS numbers. I took these off their article 1. BTS Map of the Soul 7 – 4.8m 2. BTS Be – 2.7m 3. Kenshi Yonezu Stray Sheep – 2m 4. Taylor Swift Folklore – 2m 5. Blackpink The Album – 1.5m 6. Ac/DC – Power Up – 1.4m 7. Justin Bieber Changes – 1.2m 8. BTS Map of the Soul 7 The Journey – 1.2m 9. Arashi This is Arashi – 1m 10. King Gnu Ceremony – 1m Looking at MotS 7 and The Album they sent in the gaon numbers which means around 430k digitals for Mots 7 and 370k digitals for Blackpink. But BE;s gaon numbers are 2.7m which would mean no digital at all which is again the same issue that BTS has last year among others…. I don’t understand why they can;t properly count the numbers. BE surely had some digitals but they didn;t add them at all. At least it didn;t change the order. As for this list Seventeen ( 1.37m ) and NCT (1.28m) should have made it in just based on their gaon physicals so this is bullshit . I think their companies didn’t submit or else it makes no sense. As for the grammy point, yes I feel like MotS 7 was totally robbed from Pop Vocal Album because it’s a damn good album but it’s not suprising since it didn’t have the numbers in the Us or a big single . As for the albums dropping after the first week the problem is BTS korean songs and albums never get any industry support. We know streaming keeps a lot of albums on the charts and relevant through big singles mostly ( Future Nostalgia, After Hours, Fine Line etc) but BTS never have that luxury, they don;t get radio, they don’t get playlisting, how are the albums supposed to stay on the charts if they don;t get this support and exposure? So them dropping doesn’t surprise me and nor does it mean no demand for them in the US cause Dynamite clearly showed what they can do if they get promoted like other big western artists but I digress.

Gaon’s numbers aren’t 100% accurate though. Those are shipments
