This seems to be the big conversation in Pop music this past year. Every artist has a era where they don’t do as well as expected but the big question is can Lady GaGa be a force again in Pop music. I personally think she can if she reinvents herself but she has to want it. Discuss…..September 2, 2014 at 9:42 am #400787
I don’t think so. Maybe she’ll have some more hits on future albums. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.

I dont think she’ll be what she was but she’ll always be around but her days of being THE pop star are over.September 2, 2014 at 10:03 am #400789
Yeah, no one ever holds that crown forever ! Britney , Christina, Katy, Rihanna, etc all had their time when they were THE pop star of the moment. Right now it’s Taylor and Ariana and I’m willing to bet they’ll suffer a decline too. It happens to the best of em !!September 2, 2014 at 11:04 am #400790
No, she’s not over. She needs to take a break and come back with a different focus and intent.September 2, 2014 at 11:13 am #400791
I was actually having this discussion with someone the other day. Lady Gaga is a talent, for sure. But her music appeals to people the most when it’s easily digestible. She was at her peak right around 2009-2010, when The Fame / The Fame Monster era was occuring and every single she had was huge (“Poker Face”, “Bad Romance”, “Alejandro”, “Paparazzi”, “Telephone”, “Monster”, “LoveGame”, “Just Dance”)<–not in order. Once Born This Way rolled around in 2011, her sound changed a bit and her music wasn’t as instantly accessible. I think it still resonated with people because of how anthemic the songs were and how empowering their messages were. It was also very strong songwriting. But the move away from strict dance-pop into more of glam-rock surprised a lot of people, myself included.
But Artpop changed a lot of what people thought of Lady Gaga. It was a bit too over-the-top; self-absorbed. It harkened back to the dance-y like songs of The Fame/Monster era, but was too saturated in electronic production and aimed far too high for the audience that gave Gaga her initial success. “Applause” still was a moderate success but nothing else seems to have resonated with critics and the public alike.
I think in order for Gaga to be as successful as she was 4-5 years ago (minus the novelty factor), she needs to go by the formula that helped from the beginning. There’s nothing wrong with re-inventing yourself (as Taylor Swift is showing us), but sometimes that doesn’t always translate into record sales and universal acclaim.September 2, 2014 at 11:14 am #400792
Nah. She still is a big name and can definately sustain her career.September 2, 2014 at 11:17 am #400793
Her days are FAR FROM OVER… There are always ebbs and flows in careers and she will rise again, mark my words.September 2, 2014 at 11:58 am #400794

Agreed. ARTPOP was a pretty rough era. Her management literally fell to pieces, and she only had two hit songs. However, I strongly believe GaGa’s career is far from over. She’s still the most talented pop star out there today. When you combine her voice, stage performances, and music videos, no one can really touch her. I truly believe almost everything went wrong with her career after Born This Way was released. If singles/management had been handled differently, she would probably still be at the top of her game. These last two or three years have been a mess though. Hopefully she gets critical acclaim with Cheek to Cheek. That should certainly help her garner more respect, as the album will showcase her voice.

She’s far from over. That’s unnecessary hyperbole.September 2, 2014 at 2:29 pm #400798
She has a cult she’ll never be over. I’m suprised ARTPOP did poorly. I thought it was a terrific album especially the title track. I think what happens is all her fans buy her music the first day and then no one buys it after that. She’s not like Katy Perry that people would buy her album along the way and in no rush. She just needs to have another hit singleSeptember 2, 2014 at 3:36 pm #400799
I think egg gaga is over but she has a lot of talent and will be back! Unless Egg Gaga was just too much and she returns as Stephanie Germanata!
