Maybe until Valentine’s Day. The most realistic scenario could be 12-18 weeks at #1.

12-18 weeks at number 1?!?!? You must be kidding me I see 5 at most until Drake comes in

Honestly do people really think that this songs success is organic? This is a perfect publicity stunt. There have been rumors about her relationship with her costar for a whole year and videos with nearly 1 million views the whole summer about people speculating about the drama. The very first day of the release tik tok was filled with conspiracy theory videos about who the song was about and the love triangle drama. Twitter too. That is how it initially spread on tik tok which is it’s main driving force before it became a trend with the bed falling thing.

She announced her single and then the costar announced that he  will release this Friday. Vulture wrote about the relationship drama the very next day the song came out. She has tik toks this summer that allude to the whole drama with a lot of engagement . There were a lot of people interested, younger people, teens  and her fanbase which is exactly the ones most likely to use tiktok. The label just took advantage of the situation. Not saying the song isn’t good or that she isn’t genuinely talented cause she has a good voice ( even if I think that the style of the song is too much like Billie. It feels like Billie 2.0 but without the edge) .

Her show with the costar is coming out next month.  This is no coincidence.  This is the perfect publicity stunt by her team and Disney ( and maybe the costar’s team too since his song is coming out this week) they must be loving the publicity and attention and success.

It’s also no coincidence how many blue checkmark people on instagram were hyping her up before release and the day of release before the song even “took off” . Look at the instagram comments . Endless and endless blue check mark.people hyping her up on the exact day of release. Not to mentiom Taylor responding and others which got the attention of her fans . A lot of huge tiktokers talking about the song on release day thus bringing a lot of attention to the song on that app.Her posts with the bridge to make it go viral.

This was all careful orchestrated to blow up by the label in a different more roundabout way than the original payola route to make it seem more organic and homegrown. And look it”s massively successful. Give it up to the marketing and promotion team. They must be proud. The song is genuinely good but how many really good songs go under the radar? Almost all of them. This is no organic success . Let’s not act like she just dropped a song and it will go nr 1 just like that. She is signed to Interscope. There are promotional deals in place and promotion. She is more of an industry plant than Billie Eilish ever was. Billie had at least a couple of years and many  hits to build herself off of before she hit it big.

The real test will be her next song and album. The relationship shtick , especially with Disney stars never holds any gp interest for long. Look at Miley Cyrus and Wrecking Ball. Went viral, lots of discourse because it was about her ex husband Liam but then she fizzled not long after. GP lost interest in her. If she holds the interest of gp sure she can become the next big thing but she can just as easily  fall off extremely quickly because  of this song just becoming the next big tik tok song ( like dance monkey, say so ) and people not really caring about the actual artist behind the song. One hit wonder. So let”s see. But it’s probably safe to say that Interscope will be pushing for bna.

Not reading all that from the post above but I agree that something is a little fishy about this. I mean ofc it could just be that it’s gone viral super quick, but it’s not exactly the viral song type plus this is like never before seen success from an…alternative pop song?

I mean i’m not much of a conspiracist, but yeah

I lost my brain cells reading this nonsense. The song have zero airplay, lack of playlisting. People abusing the word ‘organic’ without knowing the real context. Viral ≠ inorganic.

Anyway, Royals, We Are Young, Somebody That I Used To Know are examples that alternative pop song can be huge smash.

    For you consideration :

Album of the year : folklore
Record of the year : Don't Start Now
Song of the year : cardigan
Best new artist : Phoebe Bridgers

Best pop vocal album : folklore
    Best rap album : Alfredo
Best alternative music album : Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Best progressive R&B album : Ungodly Hour

THIS. Interscope/Geffen haven’t sent the song to radio (impact date: Jan. 19th) yet stations are manually adding it to their rotation playlists. Remember that she has a tiktok and disney fanbase that has been backing her up before DL came out.

Honestly I don’t think the label expected it to do as good as it did but it did so they put it on The big playlists. The Taylor thing is weird because the swiffers were the original supporters of the song and Taylor has acknowledged her before but there were countless articles about it so I get you. I do think people were going to support it and I think they knew tik tok would make it blow up but I don’t think anyone ever expected an alt pop song to become the most streamed song in a single day on Spotify. I think they planned for a top 10, not the massive cultural moments it is now

I’ve seen more than a couple of people on my Instagram listening to DL on their stories so that’s how I personally gauge how popular a song is amongst the locals. DL is definitely making a lot of noise, it’s just facts. Young artists blow up all the time, idk why y’all are so surprised? She’s released it at the peak of the streaming era amongst the audience which uses streaming apps the most. Gen z simply loves it and it’s a domino effect, the more it gains, the more popular it becomes. And we’ve already seen how notorious tiktok has become in manufacturing hits. Basic or not, the public clearly likes it.

Just checked and yeah, “Vision of Love” debuted at #1 too. I stand corrected.

And Mariah’s achievement is 100 time more relevant considering she actually sold physical copies.

Much, much easier to climb charts nowadays when all you need is some idiot teens streaming your song one day because they’ve seen it on some stupid app.

Well done to this young lady for writing a song with this success but I didn’t find the song anything special. She sounds like the typical indie singer. A bit like Billie Eilish.
