And Mariah’s achievement is 100 time more relevant considering she actually sold physical copies. Much, much easier to climb charts nowadays when all you need is some idiot teens streaming your song one day because they’ve seen it on some stupid app. Well done to this young lady for writing a song with this success but I didn’t find the song anything special. She sounds like the typical indie singer. A bit like Billie Eilish.

    Speaking of Mariah….

Olivia just posted a Mariah tribute on her Instagram. She definitely knows what’s up 👀

‘Driver’s licence’ is blowing up the same way ‘baby’ by Justin Bieber once did. A whole cultural moment.

    Spotify:

    Driver’s License (13/1)

    US: 5.7B
    WW: 13.6B

    Driver’s License (12/1)

    US: 6.1B
    WW: 13.4B

It decreased in US but rose overall WW.

    I hate Bieber but c’mon 😅

During that particular phase everyone had his Bieber haircut lol. Also that teeny boppy voice blaaahah lol. That was super annoying but waaaay crazier.

I don’t think we have had anything come close to what we had during the 2000s /early 2010s.

It’s not just about numbers, it’s just the overall impact. Pop culture during these times (*2000s/ early 2010s) were INSANE.

All the pop girlies before would’ve had at least 5 if not #1s, top 5s *huge hits* in one album. Non of these pop-girlies we have right now (Camila, Dua Billie, etc.) would’ve survived with their “one top 10 then go per era” lol.

dua (particularly dua) and camila would have had more success if they were around then

i mean justin too had to start somewhere and baby initially had the same hype as driver’s license has rn and it’s only been out for five days. we need to wait and see if she becomes the moment like justin bieber once did but the song just blowing up out of nowhere reminded me of ‘baby’

Bieber’s hype was way more crazier.
But DL is actually better than ‘baby’.

Joshua Basset just released a new single, do you guys think the Olivia hype will transfer over to him as well?

his single will do better than before but probably not as much. It feels like while Olivia is Taylor/Lorde, Josh was more like Shawn Mendes who in my opinion makes much safer and less exciting music. It’s good but it didn’t have the same repeat value as me
