Nothing really changes. People got angry when they realised that Billie was competing for chart positions and Grammys. Back in 2013 they got angry with Lorde and even created some sort of birther/age-truther conspiracy theory, claiming that she was faking her age and was really 45 or something.

Omg that was so weird. Even my mom would be like “That Lorde girl is definitely faking her age”. Made me so mad lol.

L3 out in 2050 or when Antarctica melts due to climate change and Lorde the Penguin is forced to come back to societyApril 3, 2021 at 10:03 pm #1204174320and the weirdest part was … who the fuck cared 😭
people just liked the music she was putting out like nobody had the time or fucks to give even if lorde was faking her age

And so many people accused her of not writing her own songs. There were conspiracies of her mom writing her songs for her, Joel Little writing all of them and her just changing one word, etc. And when Green Light came out she got hate for “trying to sound like Taylor Swift’s 1989 album” and being a “sellout”. But I feel that post-Melodrama she is taken much more seriously as an artist

How would you describe Olivia’s persona? Billie gives an dark emo-ish vibe and Lorde used have this dark child thing which I ABSOLUTELY loved. Gaga, Swift Beyonce, Arianna, Lana, Riri, Cardi, Nicki, Adele etc all have uniqueness that attracts a specific loyal fan base and ease commercialisation.
How would you describe Rodigo’s style? Because if I understand correctly, labels usually won’t approach you if they don’t see a specific feature to hinge marketing on.

Just like 2000s Taylor Swift, Olivia gives off average relatable teenage girl vibes. Which is actually kind of uncommon since Billie and Lorde were weird as fuck when they were teenagers lol. Well Billie is still 19 but you get my point. I will say Olivia needs to find her niche if she’s gonna cement her voice in pop because everything she’s doing right now has lowkey been done before

Wouldn’t that limit her success in the next 5 years when the late Gen-Z grow and shes no more considered a kid by Gen-Alpha? Consider Katy. Swift at least added a fairytale-ish touch in the 2000s.

Typical cupcake teenager vibes rn lol, which isn’t a bad thing. DL’s success and her appeal so far has been her relatability to a younger audience and the girl next door persona. DL and déjà vu are good but slightly basic. I still believe that she has potential tho, maybe she’ll find her niche.
Two singles are way too early to judge her tbh. Labels will always push out the most commercial songs first so I’m reserving my judgement till her EP.
ReplyCopy URLApril 4, 2021 at 6:46 am #1204174721Kinda unrelated but Lorde is so damn impressive. She has like 30 songs out but she’s already established her sound so well and inspiring the next generation of artists too …
ReplyCopy URLApril 4, 2021 at 7:28 am #1204174771If I’m being completely honest, Melodrama didn’t sit well with me. I prefer the deeper and darker sound of Pure Heroine. The synthesizer buzz in Tennis Court’s hook was sick! For someone like me whose favourite musical device is the Synthesizer, the Gospel-ish dream pop sound of Bravado was insane, as well as the album’s sound as a whole.

Lorde is literally one of the most influential pop artists of recent times.
ReplyCopy URLApril 4, 2021 at 8:17 am #1204174819It’ll be difficult for her to find a unique sound, personally I couldn’t listen to drivers license without thinking about where I’d heard every part of the production before. She’s very very reminiscent of Julia Michaels in sound at the moment, that’s probably down to her producer. She has potential, I hope she finds a better creative team and I’m definitely rooting for her!

April 4, 2021 at 11:41 am #1204175348I just think she needs to 1) hire a new producer and 2) stop trying to write songs like Taylor Swift and start trying to write songs like Olivia Rodrigo. She has so much potential and I do love her music, but I know that once she finds her voice as an artist her output will be very good
