If you take a look at the 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards winners page, you’ll find that Joe Alwyn is now listed as a producer on Folklore’s AOTY win. When I first saw this I was confused; to my understanding, he only ghost-wrote two songs, which wouldn’t make him eligible under the 33% rule. It was also weird because he was never credited up til the day of the ceremony (in fact, I’m sure the credit appeared this week).

Around two weeks ago, Alwyn was mysteriously and silently added to six Folklore songs as a producer: my tears ricochet, august, illicit affairs, this is me trying, exile, and betty (the latter two he also co-wrote). This six songs total 40% of the album; five songs would’ve made it 31%, therefore making him ineligible for a credit on the AOTY win.

I think it’s pretty obvious that what’s happening is a blatant case of fraud. Alwyn is barely a songwriter to begin with, so since when is he a producer? Why did she not credit him as a producer for almost a whole year? Why did Alwyn’s credits happen after the album had won AOTY? It’s also very shady that he got the credits as a producer and not songwriter; her team knew it’d make no sense for him to appear as a songwriter when she had previously made a post back when the record dropped explcitly saying he wrote only two songs.

This is so funny I’m sorry. Taylor’s so smart.

Can’t wait till the 1989 credits get updated to reveal how Selena Gomez helped produce I Know Places, All You Had To Do Was Stay, How You Get the Girl and I Wish You Would!

    Johnny Depp is a wifebeater.

Taylor is so…is she that much in love…she is not credited as producer but Joe is on many songs. I hope Jack and Aaron don’t mind and I hope he is not getting paid any of Jack’s, Aaron’s share. Just a credit for namesake to win this.

This is fraud.. I don’t believe he produced any of those songs. Why would Joe want a grammy though, isnt he an actor?

Why did she not credit him as a producer for almost a whole year? Why did Alwyn’s credits happen after the album had won AOTY?

Taylor would have known that it wouldn’t look good to add him while Grammy voting was still taking place, so better to sneak him in later.

    I see that they updated grammy.com: https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/joe-alwyn/298064

It’s also very shady that he got the credits as a producer and not songwriter

If he was added as a songwriter, then records held by ASCAP and other performance and publishing rights organisations would need to change and the share paid out by streaming services to the other songwriters would be reduced.

There is no such requirement for producers, engineers, session musicians and other technical and musical contributors to get paid a share. They often get a one-off payment and these arrangements are never disclosed.

This sort of thing should come as no shock. The Grammys give awards to celebrities, so Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Blue Ivy have Grammys and now so does Joe Alwyn.

Perhaps Björk should have married into the right family or something. Or maybe we shouldn’t take the Grammys quite so seriously.

So would it be possible for someone to just decide to add a bunch of artists without a Grammy to their album to give them wins? Like could Billie Eilish add Katy Perry as a producer on her AOTY win and Katy would just… have a Grammy then?? It’s definitely a system that needs fixing.
