In March, EDM veterans Kaskade & Deadmau5 released their 4th collaboration, “Escape” featuring singer Hayla on lead vocals, their first under their group name Kx5. The single topped Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart in April.
With 13 nominations combined for both producers (7 for Kaskade, 6 for Deadmau5), could this collaboration (14 years after their first, “I Remember”) be the one that gets them their first win?
Surely they will face competition from Swedish House Mafia, Diplo, Flume & Odesza. But with most of this year’s big dance tracks (specifically Acraze’s “Do It To It” & the Elton John/Dua Lipa/PNAU “Cold Heart” collaboration) being released outside of their year’s eligibility, and no stand out tracks from presumed front runners, there’s a chance.
Kx5 is coming off their live show debut at last weekend’s Electric Daisy Carnival (I can confirm the song had a HUGE presence all weekend long.) If they’re nominated, nominations will be revealed around the same time the duo headlines the L.A. Collesium. That’s going to be a major showcase for a side project with one single, in the city where most voters live. Plus, last year’s Best Dance/Electronic Recording winners, Rufus Du Sol, played 3 sold out stadium show in L.A. last November just before nominations were released.
With 13 career nominations, both Kaskade & deadmau5 are clearly beloved by their peers.
