Did Katy release Smile as a way to complete some contractual agreement with her label? It seems like a premature era for an act on the decline. Or did she truly believe new music would salvage her previous underperforming album? 👀 And why would she include all of the flop singles on the final Tracklist? Katy must really not care anymore.

I mean, it’s been more than 3 years since Witness so it’s really not that soon after..svg” class=”emoji”

Critics would probably favor Teenage Dream on re-evaluation. It’s one of the most impactful and iconic Pop records of all-time.

I agree, that would probably go over 70. Specially critics are less harsh to pop albums as they once were (when you compare chromatica to previous gaga’s albums, for example)

All I have to say is she didn’t evolve with the times and it’s sad because she was HUGE when I was little. At least Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, Charli XCX, Beyoncé and now currently Taylor Swift have now garnered the critical acclaim and indie status. I’m worried about who’s next, one fuck up and it’s out: Ed Sheeran, Adele, Lady Gaga, and Bruno Mars.

After first listen, there are come cute tracks on the record but also some mediocre ones. It’s not bad though. Overall I’d give it a 6 or 6.5 out of 10.

I don’t think Lorde, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Charli XCX are the best comparisons to Katy, as I think the general public considers them all to be one-hit-wonders. Musically, I’d say has evolved more than Pink, who I’d say is more of a comparison to Katy.

I agree though, the Pop world is much different now than it was even 3 years ago, so artists are at a crossroads of having to stay true to themselves, or change to fit the mold of what “streaming.” It’s a shame actually, and I think artists should put out the music they want to put out. They will have fans regardless.

Cry About It Later and Not The End Of The World are bops. THE PROBLEM WITH THESE CRITICS IS THAT THEY ALWAYS COMPARE HER NEW SONGS TO HER HITS.

HER GOAL IS NOT TO MAKE HITS, BUT TO EXPRESS HER THOUGHTS AND INSPIRE PEOPLE JUST LIKE ANY OTHER POPSTAR.

    Highlights:

Never Really Over, Daisies, Not The End Of The World, Tucked, Harley’s In Hawaii, Only Love

    Lowlights:

Cry About It Later, Teary Eyes, Smile

None of the songs are really bad but a lot are forgettable. I agree that it isn’t quite hooky and catchy enough for what she’s trying to do with the album but overall still solid.

    Probably a 6-7/10 for me.

    It is a 7.5/10

More of the same, at least some songs are okay.

Somehow i expected it to sound worse.

critics aren’t being fair to her. i find a lot of the reviews sound really biased, there’s really nothing big wrong with the album

These critics are out here taking Ls. I thought this album was really good. There are some BOPS on here but also some introspective tracks. I’d give this a 7.5/10.
