May 9, 2022 at 10:32 am #1204947279I’m hoping for a Rihanna or a Doja feature. That’s all.

May 11, 2022 at 12:34 pm #1204949228My theory on the album title:
Kendrick is Mr. Morale since he’s always looked up to as a major spokesperson for social issue. The kids are the big steppers and this album will discuss how his kids will follow in the footsteps of their father. Basically I think this is going to be primarily about fatherhood since this is Kendrick’s first album as a father.

May 12, 2022 at 10:19 pm #1204950713Just finished
Let’s start with the elephant in the room, there are various aspects of this album clearly designed to cause controversy rather than to enhance the album. Kodak Black isnt on 3 separate tracks because Kendrick thinks he’s a good artist, it’s because Kendrick knows people will write thinkpieces about it. I also don’t know how I feel about the R. Kelly mention considering Kendricks history there but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say he was playing a character.
However, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t love this. N95 is catchy. Father Time is a future classic in the mention. And while I’m not a fan of his use of homophobic slurs in it, Auntie Diaries was a highlight for me and I love the overall message.
However, the clear standout for me was mother i sober. His lyrics and delivery are both equally heartbreaking. When he switches from sadness to anger in the final verse, it really hits. Truly one of his most powerful songs.
So while I do wish Kendrick didn’t try to shamelessly bait for controversy, this is overall another brilliant album for Kendrick.

May 12, 2022 at 10:41 pm #1204950719This is a very interesting album in a positive way. Kendrick says the f-slur in Auntie Diaries but it’s a anti-homophobia song. I’m really surprised by the Kodak Black features but i hate him very much so even it hurts me that he did a good job on Silent Hill. My favorite rapper GHOSTFACE KILLAH is on the album and closed the first part. All featured artists killed it honestly, Sampha, Taylor Paige, Summer Walker, Baby Keem, Beth Gibbons, Tanna Leone. They were awesome, production is also great.
That’s all i can say and We Cry Together and Mother I Sober are brilliant songs.

May 13, 2022 at 5:41 am #1204950925Very very sad album. Pain is literally entrenched in EVERY song. This is going to be a very triggering album for black men who have grown up dealing with repressed trauma, anger, resentment, and pain. It downright brave for an artist of Kendrick’s stature to release an album like this after a 5 year hiatus and right before summer. There are “anthems” on this album to bop your head to. There are no real uplifting or overly positive songs. This album is a real confessional and real call to black men in America to properly process and communicate collective anguish and find constructive ways to heal.
ReplyCopy URLMay 13, 2022 at 11:30 am #1204951154I personally took my time to listen to Kendrick’s studio album discography from good kid maad city to this and I can see the natural artistic progression. The only downside is that I feel like the shock and activism is a little but more forced this time around. I was NOT a fan of hearing a straight man use the f-slur but it even more frustrating to see more straight men on social media trying to justify it saying that because it is Kendrick it is for art. That word could have been removed from the song and the message would still be there. I expected more from a man who obviously knows about social issues.
