She’s also written A TON of songs for/with people who I assume are Academy members. I can 100% understand that getting her a nomination, but the fact that she won was just so random. Especially for an album that not only had little popularity but also only got her ONE nomination at this year’s Latin Grammys (for Best Portuguese Language Song, of all categories).

I mean, for all I know, it WAS the better album that year, in terms of quality, but the Latin Pop category rarely goes to someone who’s not a big name.

    Natalia deserved to win instead

The entire SOTY lineup in 2018 was so random and a complete disaster. It was like they just picked five random songs out a hat.

Bubblin winning Rap Performance this year was bizarre. I still don’t understand how Anderson won when he was up against two massive #1 hits and a Cardi B hit.

Anderson Paak is loved by rap and R&B community. That’s why i said don’t underestimate him. He can gain GF nominations when he got 2 albums this year. Bubblin was ultra surprising, it was a promotional single.

Al Walser in Best Dance Recording for “I Can’t Live Without You.” He managed this surprise nomination through some shady Grammy campaigning and email blitzing during the nominations process. The Recording Academy now has rules in place to prevent this kind of nomination from happening.

Omg I’d forgotten about this song lol!!! And it was so mediocre, too, compared to the other stuff that got nominated! Can’t hate someone for playing the game, though.

That’s who I was rooting for, but I didn’t listen to all the nominated albums, so I don’t know which album was, in fact, the best one.

“My Humps” winning over “Cable Car” is still so weird.

Joanne was aided by being featured during an emotional moment in the Lady Gaga documentary on Netflix.

Yeah, because this doc won every award and was a huge success for Netflix and everybody was talking about it from September 2017 all the way up to Grammy voting in 2019. Makes sense. Not to mention it won the prestigious MTV Film & Tv Award. And I’m sure A Star is Born had nothing to do with it.

Way back Grammys 2006 Emmylou Harris won Female Country Vocal over prominent nominees at that time. Her nomination was even random let alone her win. She was against Faith Hill, Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack and Gretchen Wilson.

Mya in R&B Album was a WTF! moment. No one was predicting her.

female country post-shania pre-miranda/underwood was weak in general, if I had to pick a winner from that lineup it would’ve been emmylou harris too

Dixie Chicks winning Country Album over Shania was a WTF moment. It doesn’t mean that Wide Open Spaces isn’t deserving, but I saw that live and my eyebrows were raised way higher than Jack Nicholson saying “The Oscar goes to Crash”.

I can imagine why it happened, but who would predict this outcome?
