Who do you think will win?August 29, 2012 at 7:51 am #383298
What the fuck of the point of this? And I don’t understand the major hard on MTV has for Beyonce. That video like the song is a train wreck!August 29, 2012 at 12:20 pm #383299
I don’t even know if it’s necessary to predict this, since you can see the total votes on the category page, and as of now it’s still pretty even between Bieber and 1D. Honestly, this award is such a publicity stunt I really don’t care for it. Gotye and Beyoncé have the only videos of the bunch that are really good. Carly’s is nice but nothing special, 1D’s is okay for what it is, and Bieber’s is just bad…August 30, 2012 at 3:53 pm #383300
MTV + the VMA’s + this category =August 31, 2012 at 7:57 am #383301
I think this category is a revamped social media version of the Viewer’s Choice award.August 31, 2012 at 1:06 pm #383302
^But at least Viewer’s Choice had some prestige as one of the main awards of the night. This one’s already been confirmed as being presented during the pre-show…September 3, 2012 at 11:52 pm #383303
This category is stupid, but that’s not what should be discussed.
5. “Countdown” Beryonce
-Yeah, she’s Beyonce, but she’s filler at best. Have people been even talking about Beyonce?
4. “Boyfriend” Justin Bieber
-All this amounts to is another dumb video from J-Biebs. Moving on (though not quickly enough.)
3. “Somebody That I Used to Know” Goyte
-This is actually a technically great video, and on an artistic level, is a lot of fun. However…
2. “What Makes You Beautiful” One Direction
-… Gotye doesn’t have the massive following that One Direction has. Their video is shit. All they do is hop around a beach like a bunch of idiots. Still, you can’t argue they have support.
1. “Call Me Maybe” Carly Rae Jepsen
-I hate this song, but it fits the definition of most “share-worthy.” The song has turned into a bit of a phenomenon, whether or not it amounts to the butt of a million jokes or not. The song is massive, and the video is the one to beat. It’s dynamic, it has a story, it has humor, and it really is the best video.
So there ya go.September 4, 2012 at 8:40 am #383304
One Direction now trumps Bieber by 700,000 plus votes. They might even go 3/3 come VMA night.September 4, 2012 at 3:30 pm #383305

I was noticing that, too. I actually quickly went ot my predictions and bumped them up to my #2 on Best Pop Video (I still have the, perhaps idealistic, belief that Rihanna will win). Whatever, at least I like that 1D song… and I can’t say I haven’t danced to it a time or two.
Meanwhile, regarding an earlier post: I guess Beyoncé is filler in that there were a few other videos that would’ve made just as much (or more) sense as nominees, but “Countdown” does belong there, especially given all the parodies of it that popped up (esp. the Snuggie one). That Bieber video, on the other hand… did it really go viral or is it just that his fans will just watch and rewatch (x1000) everything he puts out there on YouTube?? (I’d ask the same about 1D but again, I do like that song…)
