But I thought y’all were talking about how Dua and Harry got 0 nominations?? How did Dua win an award without a credited nominations?
Anyways, Dua queen of the VMA’s!
Not me, though. That was the pop culture blogs trying to generate traffic on their sites through stan outrage (and the stans who fell for it). I even said that report saying Dua and Harry skipped the VMAs due to being “snubbed” was nonsense because they weren’t really snubbed.August 30, 2020 at 7:41 pm #1203676613
Taylor is happening. Let’s not be delusional.
I don’t think Blinding Lights will happen. It won 0 technical awards. Rain On Me feels way more likely; Cinematography has had some eventual nominees like Apeshit, Rolling in the Deep, Bad Girls, Humble, and This Is America, and Gaga overperformed in general.August 30, 2020 at 7:41 pm #1203676615
Based on the definition Kelly Clarkson gave for AOTY, I think Gaga fit the mold a little more than The Weeknd. Not only did she release Chromatica, but she was also heavily involved in planning the COVID concert. She was more “visible” this year than The Weeknd. I would have preferred BL winning SOTY and ROM winning VOTY. That makes more sense to me since ROM video was more of an “event” than BL video, but BL as a song is inescapable this year.
The Weeknd released After Hours which is way bigger than Chromatica, Blinding Lights is undoubtedly THE song of the year while Rain On Me is arguably not even top 10. There were several other nominees bigger than ROM too
The only thing that could give her the edge is her being way more vocal in her involvement on COVID relief and even that is a stretch
No one should expect the VMAs to make the most sensible choices anyway since they’re known for fucking up frequently. But the way stans are already taking shots at him for upseting their fave as if some of her wins weren’t also “questionable” in the first place is laughable
Best Actress - Viola Davis
Best Actor - Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman
Best Supp Actor - Daniel Kaluuya, Yahya Abdul-Mateen IIAugust 30, 2020 at 7:41 pm #1203676621
What i don’t like about Gaga losing VOTY is that MTV always overnominate and overreward their Vanguard/Icon Award of the year, and from all the awards they gave her by obligation tonight, the one they “needed” to give her was VOTY, and it’s the one we all thought she was 100% winning.
Like, i felt sure she was not winning Artist and Song, but well, at least they rightfully gave her the Icon Award, we can’t deny Gaga’s impact visually, in her 12 years of career she really made a tremendous impact that no other new artist has matched, i’m so proud of her for receiving an award that recognizes her impact on the music industry.August 30, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203676628
Maybe users actually believe BL didn’t deserve to win 🤷🏾♂️
Neither video were groundbreaking. ROM just happened to feel more VOTY worthy. There was a lot more going on visually.August 30, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203676630
Idk if it’s just me but I was captivated throughout the entire show. Every performance was greatAugust 30, 2020 at 7:44 pm #1203676632
Well, the award being in the main show doesn’t mean that the category is no longer a tech category. It just means that since Taylor won, they could have her acceptance speech during the show. But the live show producers didn’t choose the winner, the tech voters did.
And the video being old is IRRELEVANT. Submission periods are there for a reason.
I’m not a blind Stan, I don’t think Taylor deserves to WIN BMV. FKA Twigs, for example, deserves it more. But people really stretch and bend their brains with mental gymnastics to discredit any of Taylor’s achievements.
you might be right, she is a strong possibility. i’ll still think presenting on the main show was fishy cause mtv can change voted awards just like they can any of the professional if they feel like (as in best latin for example). or inventing awards like tricon
the video is def something to consider in the predictions, but Blinding Lights feels more likely to me
Chromatica and Fetch the Bolt Cutters AOTYs yeahAugust 30, 2020 at 7:46 pm #1203676637
anyways, night was good

What’s fishy to me is that Taylor wins directing and suddenly MTV changed the technical categories winners when they really don’t have to/owe her anything. It just screams on Taylor-hating for no reason.August 30, 2020 at 7:48 pm #1203676648
It’s funny, because I haven’t watched the VMAs in years, yet the year the format is entirely different is the year I watched! I agree that the flow was really good. My only complaint is using Bebe Rexa for VOTY and the Hadid girl for the Tricon award.August 30, 2020 at 7:49 pm #1203676652
i already see some getting brave over bl winning voty as if that translated to huge grammy success for previous winners like camila, beyonce, kendrick, taylor (in 2019) etc
anyway, bl TANKING with techs (which are industry voted unlike voty) against flop songs like the man and md is mind boggling to me, so atleast that lets us know it’s not getting in bmv and he may not be as undeniable as gd thinks.
