Shockingly when Patti was with her group LaBelle that Lady Marmalade did not get nominated at the 1976 Grammy Awards. This should have been a slam dunk for R&B Duo or Group.

    1976 R&B Duo or Group
Earth, Wind & Fire for “Shining Star” – WINNER
Average White Band for “Cut the Cake”
    Ohio Players for “Fire”
KC and the Sunshine Band for “Get Down Tonight”
The Pointer Sisters for “How Long (Betcha’ Got a Chick on the Side)”

Honey, Patti LaBelle’s two Grammy wins are about right.  She faced stiff competition back in the day.

“All Right Now” was actually a studio song. It was one of two studio recordings on her Live album.

    R&B FEMALE 1986

Aretha Franklin “Freeway of Love” – WINNER
Whitney Houston – “You Give Good Love”
Chaka Khan – I Feel for You – ALBUM
    Patti LaBelle – “New Attitude”
    Teena Marie – “Lovergirl”

This was a tough lineup. I would guess that either Whitney or Patti came in second.

    1994 R&B Female

Toni Braxton “Another Sad Love Song” – WINNER
Aretha Franklin – “Someday We’ll All Be Free”
Whitney Houston – “I’m Every Woman”
Janet Jackson – “That’s The Way Love Goes”
Patti LaBelle – “All Right Now”

I was predicting Whitney or Janet with Toni in 3rd place on this one.

what a category, aretha stands heads and shoulders above the rest though. I’d actually think either chaka or teena was second. I also just found out teena has never won a grammy, would’ve given her one for it must be magic

Interesting thought. I do agree that Teena Marie definitely should have been a Grammy winner.

Chaka Khan just won the Grammy the previous year for the single I Feel For You. Chaka’s chances would have been stronger if she were nominated for the single Through The Fire. I rank her 5th

Teena Marie’s Lovergirl did get a lot of airplay on R&B stations and is her highest charting song on the pop charts. I would rank her 4th, but a strong 4th.

I think that Whitney or Patti were runner ups in this one. You Give Good Love was everywhere as well as Patti’s New Attitude.

Her win for R&B female vocalist for the album BURNIN’ was in a tie with Lisa Fischer for the single “How Can I Ease the Pain”.

“On my own” is a R&B song, so I don’t know why it was in the pop category. So Patti & Michael should’ve won R&B performance that year 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

I think Whitney’s “You Give Good Love” was probably runner-up that year. Whitney was huge and won Female Pop the same night.

On My Own was probably submitted to Pop Duo or Group because it hit number 1 on the pop charts..svg” class=”emoji”
