- The White LotusNovember 15, 2022 at 8:05 pm #1205155427Coldpaly/BTS have support from other categories (AOTY, BPVA, BMV), I don’t think voters are going to take Unholy serious enough, ABBA is an alphabet advantage ballot-filler, name-check, and Ed Sheeran severely underperformed and the song is not big enough to win here.
The only viable contender I can come to terms with is I Like You, especially considering Dojo’s overperformance, maybe voters will want to take their chance to reward Post Malone finally here, or they’ll use the same mentality to give BTS their first win on their third consecutive BPDGP nom.

My thing with ABBA is that I’m not sure if people know they don’t have a Grammy. The pop field also tends to favour hits, and they didn’t get into SOTY meaning their nominations were purely due to ballot placement and nostalgia. I think they can win, but IDK.
“Unholy” definitely has a lot of passion if it was able to get nominated despite being so low on the ballot, not to mention that it didn’t have much time to grow on radio at all. So, I can definitely see a scenario where it wins.
I think “My Universe” could be in a similar situation to “Rain On Me”. It’s two artists pop voters really like, on a very safe song that was also a big hit albeit not the biggest. My only issue is that I’m not sure if there’s passion for that song or if people remember it that much.
And then there’s “I Like You”, which features new Grammy fave Doja Cat, as well as likely-overdue Post Malone. The song is a hit, so perhaps it pulls a win based on its success and the Post losses. That said, I feel like it could get lost in the shuffle, not really being the most unique song in the lineup.
Right now I’m leaning towards “Unholy”, with Coldplay and BTS right behind.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 15, 2022 at 9:20 pm #1205155530I wouldn’t underestimate “Unholy” because the song was released an week before deadline and it managed to snatch an single nod, if released earlier it definitely would’ve gotten more nods, the recording academy obviously liked it upon release…

November 16, 2022 at 12:58 am #1205155732I think Adele and Harry will win one each of BPSP and BPVA.
And then ABBA, of course. It’s the best song on their (overall lackluster) comeback album, and it’s also nominated in the general field. They’ve never won a Grammy, and many will seek to amend that. This category is the easiest way to do so.
(Personally I have a soft spot for My Universe and would not mind seeing BTS bagging a Grammy now that everything is about to change with their “hiatus”).
ReplyCopy URLNovember 16, 2022 at 1:43 am #1205155743Honestly, I’m not convinced that ABBA overperfomed purely because of the alphabetical order. I feel like the Grammys are trying to make up for their lack of nominations over the years. Given that they haven’t won before, I can see them giving them Pop/Duo out of their 4 nominations. I can then see Pop solo and Pop vocal album both going to Adele, with Harry not far behind for the Pop solo.

After what happened with watermelon sugar, it’s clear pop voters love Harry. I think he has the edge in the pop field whereas Adele will garner more support in the GF.
