Porter Robinson’s “Nurture”, the follow-up album to 2014’s “Worlds,” is out now.
The album could probably win Best Dance Electronic Album, but I’m curious if it gets submitted in Best Alternative Album instead.
Robinson’s Virtual Self side project song “Ghost Voices” was nominated for Best Dance Recording in 2019, and I think the standout single “Look at the Sky” is likely to get a nod next year.
This album embraces a lot more live instruments than the EDM classic “Worlds” did. Robinson has further cemented his sound, singing most of the vocals through a variety of synthesizers. There’s even a very scattered digital chop-cut track called “dullscythe” which is very Radiohead-esque.
If the Dance Electronic committee prefers less mainstream efforts, as his previous nomination was for an equally atmospheric track, I’m confident in this albums chances. This is definitely an album made for a headlining music festival set.
