I don’t think the people of this forum give a **** about Radiohead, which is why we’re the only two talking about it lol. Yes I do think it’s a masterpiece. I’ve also been reading reviews and comments online, and the funniest thing is that most of the time people recognize how extraordinary the album is, but say “the only track I wasn’t feeling was…” and I respond to that by thinking “but that’s one of my favorites!” LOL. I’ve been repeating these songs almost non-stop and they keep getting better. We’ve experienced quite a week with two great albums coming out (James Blake’s and Anohni’s) that will probably rightfully be on many people’s best-of-the-year lists in December, but then Radiohead comes along with something that is so many degrees above those two other albums, and yet you get a sense that they weren’t trying hard or trying to prove anything, it’s almost natural. Look at Identikit, at the two-minute mark, and tell me that’s not some supernatural sound. I can’t think of any other band or artist that could come up with material this compelling. I wonder if you liked this less than In Rainbows because it’s more of a downer, and slightly less accessible (although calling IR “accessible” is inaccurate lol).

Having said that, you’re gonna get a score on Metacritic probably between 78 and 85, because 1) the band has detractors and 2) you can’t really fully comprehend and review professionally this within a one or two-day period. I look at the In Rainbows reviews now and it’s quite pathetic how some of the critics couldn’t understand what was in front of them. And most of them might have the same reaction you did “I like it a lot, it’s brilliant, but I can’t give it 5 out of 5 if I think In Rainbows or Kid A is better” so they settle for 4 out of 5. But Beyonce comes out with a fairly good-to-great album and gets a bunch of perfect scores because they think that’s as good as Beyonce is ever gonna be.

Well, it’s a forum mostly made for film and tv lovers (and I ended up here as a film and tv lover, lol), so I don’t feel the right to be picky 😀
I don’t follow Metacritic and its scores too much, I just listen to the best-rated albums to check whether they’re that good or not. Usually I get disappointed, lol. I don’t feel like listening to Beyoncé’s last work at all (I’ve never tried to listen to a full album of her, not yet) but I guess I’ll have to before or later, to have my personal judgement.
But I also guess you’re much more updated on new releases than me, I’ll give you that 😀 Of the time I spend on music, a big part of it is for old records (or recent as well but not necessarily from this year). I’ve just listened to AMSP again, and my grade hasn’t changed: 8+/10.
So is it your “best album of the year so far”?

Just to be clear, I wasn’t being picky, I fully understand the situation! LOL. I don’t see Metacritic as any kind of validation either, but people here are going to be using Beyonce’s score as “proof” that her album was better than all the other AOTY nominees – I’ve been around long enough to know what’s coming.
I do think it’s the best album I heard so far this year, and by a lot, though, like I said before, James Blake and Anohni just put out pretty great material as well.

After the results in Tuesday’s Acela primaries, the presidential chances of Ted Cruz and Bernie Sanders have passed from a forlorn, but still reality-based, “stranger things have happened” hope, to pure fantasyland.
I can’t think of anything more depressing.
