The latter isn’t impressive. It shows how much of a weak AOTY win it was (which can then be seen as a negative considering it was her most acclaimed, successful, and she released a whole special + sister album during voting, but still barely won).

The former is definitely impressive as fuck though. Truly an albums artist.

1989 was most deserved AOTY win of the past decade, I don’t care what anyone says.

I think Folklore  will matter more in retrospective, the album is interesting and It gave her more freedom from making catchy pop songs. Also, for an artist like Taylor, it was like the 3rd stage evolution, country to pop to alternative/folk. It is also her new collaborator Aaron Dessner that  give a signature tone to the project, distinguishing it from her previous eras.  1989 is Second because it kinda dominated everything in 2014-2016 and Fearless is 3rd, which shouldn’t actually be neglected, cause then Taylor also set a record becoming the youngest winner of the title(before Billie breaking that record).

    1989
    Folklore
    Fearless

1989’s win had a lot of controversy but IMO, it was a deserved win. 1989 was the album that DEFINED the year. TPAB was also a very deserving winner and also defined the year, albeit in a different way. Both were deserving winners but neither is more deserving than the other. It’s like comparing apples to oranges.

    The first one is legendary.

The 2nd one shows she didnt have as much genre support. If there was a country album nominated..she would lose.

the second one shows that this was as much as her win as Aaron and Justin Vernon’s. Alternative must’ve really rallied up behind her plus her country faithfuls.

fearless was such a big moment for country music. I personally prefer the fame but fearless was a moment

She was a 18 year old who created one the most successful country albums in history. It spawned 2 international hits. Love story went on to become the best selling country single. a moment!!

    Folklore >> Fearless >> 1989.

Folklore and Fearless are great records and deserved to win, I rank Folklore first because it’s her best álbum but Fearless was the best among the nominees that year.

1989 win was atrocious, one of the worst of the decade.

    1. folklore – It’s her most cohesive album to date and has no filler tracks. This album is note-worthy and will be remembered as one of the best albums ever made (considering that this was made in isolation). But the other nominees did not do justice to this album. It will always be considered by some “an easy win” just because the category was weaker than other years. And she definitely got genre support from Pop, Alternative, Rock and Country. While Future Nostalgia is a great Pop record and deserved to win BPVA, folklore was a better choice for AOTY. Alternative and Rock voters mostly would have come due to Aaron Dessner and Justin Vernon. Country voters still love Taylor.

    2. 1989 – Some may consider it to not be a deserving win compared to TPAB but I think that it was because of the nominations that year. 1989 was a great record and will forever mark Taylow Swift as an icon because it’s not that easy to do a country to pop switch and she is so far the most successful act to do that.

    3. Fearless – I don’t think Fearless is weak compared to her other wins but in that lineup, I would not have bet on Fearless winning. Fearless is all about nostalgia and I think the voters liked a new face promoting country music to a much wider audience.
