We’re probably gonna get a lot of low key nominations in the Song categories – there hasn’t really been that one standout hit. AC / Urban AC airplay/charting is usually the best indicator for R&B nominations.

PS: I hope Normani is nominated, at least in the Rap/Sung Category.

Normani needs to release her own music before she fades away like the Havana girl

I don’t know, “Talk” (which is building on urban AC) and “Trip” have been pretty big. “Could’ve Been” will likely be nominated as well due to residual love for H.E.R. “Before I Let Go” is also likely to be nominated.

I’ve been v. disappointed in Khalid’s latest era, I can see him getting snubbed tbh. He seems too ‘pop’ for the R&B Categories, but I could see him get some nominations in the Pop categories. Trip is definitely getting a nomination. H.E.R may well get some residual love, but I don’t see Beyonce getting a nomination for any R&B song category, but maybe the GF? A lot of the talk around Homecoming has died down since it was released, and for the amount of hype it was getting, it didn’t exactly do the numbers it should have done. Maybe I’m wrong, who knows.

Ventura is a throwback 70’s soul record. It’s a better fit in R&B Album. Oxnard is his usual mix of rap and r&b/funk so Urban Contemporary would be a better fit.

    His submissions should be:
    Album of the Year: Ventura
Record of the Year: Tints (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
Song of the Year: Make It Better (feat. Smokey Robinson)
    R&B Album: Ventura
R&B performance: Make It Better (feat. Smokey Robinson)/Jet Black (feat. Brandy)
R&B Song: Come Home (feat. Anddre 3000)
    Urban Contemporary Album: Oxnard
    Rap Performance: Trippy
    Rap/Sung: Tints (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
Rap Song: Tints (feat. Kendrick Lamar)

Fantasia Performed “Enough” at BET awards and was incredible.. the song continues to climb the A/C charts (now #9) and its looking like her second single will be the collab with Jasmine and Brandy.

She revealed that the album “Sketchbook” is slated for an early july release.

Brandy is releasing new music July 1st ft Daniel Caesar “Love Again” she also said she is looking at a fall release for the album which would put it out of contention for 2020.. However love again will be eligible

No. Poor Ciara will be omitted from nominations once again. Her album is already forgotten and flopped hard.

At least she can say she’s a Grammy winner.

Here are who I see as the current contenders in the R&B Field (plus Rap/Sung):

    R&B Performance:
    Fantasia – “Enough”
    India.Arie – “Steady Love”
Anderson .Paak featuring Smokey Robinson – “Make It Better” (could go Traditional)
    Khalid – “Talk”
Kehlani featuring Ty Dolla $ign – “Nights Like This”
    H.E.R. featuring Bryson Tiller – “Could’ve Been”
    H.E.R. – “Hard Place”
Ari Lennox featuring J. Cole – “Shea Butter Baby”
Mariah Carey – “A No No”
    Ella Mai – “Trip”
Beyonce – “Before I Let Go” (could go traditional)
    Jhene Aiko – “Triggered (freestyle)”
BJ the Chicago Kid – “Time Today” (could go traditional)
Robin Thicke – “That’s What Love Can Do” (could go traditional)
Lizzo – “Juice” (could go pop)
    Chris Brown – “Undecided”

    Traditional R&B Performance:
Johnny Gill – “Soul of a Woman”
    Mariah Carey – “With You”
Brian McKnight – “When I’m Gone”
Raphael Saadiq featuring Rob Bacon – “Something Keeps Calling”
PJ Morton featuring Jojo – “Say So”

    R&B Song:
    “Enough” (Fantasia)
    “Steady Love” (India.Arie)
    “Talk” (Khalid)
    “Nights Like This” (Kehlani)
    “Make It Better” (Anderson .Paak)
“A No No” or “With You” (Mariah Carey)
“Soul of a Woman” (Johnny Gill)
“That’s What Love Can Do” (Robin Thicke)
    “Trip” (Ella Mai)
    “Juice” (Lizzo)
    “Hard Place” (H.E.R.)

    R&B Album:
    Ella Mai – Ella Mai
Ari Lennox – Shea Butter Baby
    Mariah Carey – Caution
    India.Arie – Worthy
    Raphael Saadiq – Jimmy Lee
BJ the Chicago Kid – 1123
Lionel Richie – Hello From Las Vegas (Live Album)
    Fantasia – Sketchbook

    Urban Contemporary Album:
    Khalid – Free Spirit
    Lil Nas X – 7
    Beyonce – Homecoming (Live Album)
Solange – When I Get Home
    Kehlani – While We Wait
    Anderson.Paak – Ventura
Lizzo – Cuz I Love You
    Chris Brown – Indigo

    Rap/Sung Performance:
Chris Brown featuring Drake – “No Guidance”
DJ Khalid featuring Nipsey Hustle & John Legend – “Higher”
Lil Nas X featuring Cardi B – “Rodeo”
    Lizzo – “Truth Hurts”
    Tyler, the Creator – “EARFQUAKE”
Mariah Carey featuring Slick Rick & Blood Orange – “Giving Me Life”
Meek Mill featuring Ella Mai – “24/7”
Anderson .Paak featuring Kendrick Lamar – “Tints”

    Couple Notes:

I think Lil Nas X will submit “Old Town Road” to Pop with Billy Ray Cyrus, “Panini” to Rap Performance and “Rodeo” with Cardi B to Rap/Sung.

I’m not sure if any of Solange’s songs would be considered for R&B Performance or Song, since it feels like none were released as singles or had any solo buzz, even if her full album does.

I’m really starting to believe that Lizzo will submit “Juice” to R&B instead of Pop. It’s got funk vibes to it that I think will go over well with the R&B Panel. Plus she could get two noms in R&B as oppose to only one in Pop.

Even though I think “Just Us” by DJ Khaled/SZA should be considered for R&B Performance, I don’t think there’s a shot in hell of that becoming a nominee simply because of DJ Khaled’s name attached to it. I have a feeling the panel would not allow that nomination to happen since DJ Khaled doesn’t contribute any vocals. Poor SZA.

    – It would be nice if Mariah got some noms here
    – Normani’s best hope is DWAS in the pop categories
    – I think Talk/Khalid will be placed in the pop categories
    – Ari Lennox better get the multiple noms she fully deserves

Fantasia should get a nomination for “Enough.”

“Hard Place” should be H.E.R.’s submission, unless this unreleased new song blows up.

Khalid can submit Talk to R&B song. and Better to R&B Performance. His album will get in Urban Contemporary.

I can see him getting 3/3. Likely losing all but still.

Lizzo should submit “Juice” to R&B Performance and Song.

    “Truth Hurts” to Pop Solo.
    “TEMPO” to Rap/Sung.

Her album can go either way but I say she has a better chance at Pop Vocal Album. I dont know if the R&B panel will be welcoming of her.

Lizzo would not be rejected from the R&B field.
