I mean Im predicting Ari to get nominations as well. I have her in BNA and R&B Perf/Song but to say that her album is bigger than Caution or more worthy of the nomination is false. In a perfect world, they both get in.
Who said Ari’s album was bigger? Y’all really read stuff that’s not there.September 9, 2019 at 11:32 am #1203065798
Yeah, and Mariah’s old news. As in recent years, the Grammys have pushed for newer artists or veteran artists who have never gotten that buzz. Nobody’s going to remember Caution. Ari Lennox is new and fresh and could be something the current Grammys go for.
This sounds awfully like ageism to me. It’s cool though, you’re entitled to your opinion (as I am to mine).September 9, 2019 at 11:34 am #1203065804
Also, saying that Caution is “10x bigger and more acclaimed” than Shea Butter Baby is utterly exaggerated. Caution has merely nine reviews counted vs Shea Butter Baby‘s four, and they’re one point apart (82 vs 81). Not to mention, Caution was a commercial failure itself.September 9, 2019 at 11:35 am #1203065806

Ma, you said Mariah was “old news”, with the implication that Caution tanked harder than every other album mentioned in this forum. This is the R&B category hunny, most of the albums here are quote-on-quote ‘commercial failures’.September 9, 2019 at 11:38 am #1203065811

It IS old news. Caution was an album released last year with no current singles holding it up. It’s not on the Billboard 200 and it doesn’t even seem like she is promoting the album anymore. It is old news.
And my post was in response to YOURS saying that Ari’s came and went. I realize now that you’re just a delusional lamb.September 9, 2019 at 11:46 am #1203065832

Caution was on ENDLESS Year End Lists of 2018. That outweighs Metacritic.September 9, 2019 at 11:54 am #1203065841
I realize now that you’re just a delusional lamb.
1. I’m a casual fan of Mariah’s and only started checking out her discography after the Caution album dropped.
2. I’m a fan of R&B music in general and Mariah released one of the best R&B albums of the past year. She may not get nominated, but she objectively deserves one.September 9, 2019 at 11:55 am #1203065843
Caution was on ENDLESS Year End Lists of 2018. That outweighs Metacritic.
Not in the top 50 on AOTY or top 30 on Metacritic. Just an honorable mention. So, please define “endless.”
And since the 2019 lists won’t be released until November, you can’t compare the acclaim of Shea Butter Baby to it. Please move along.September 9, 2019 at 12:10 pm #1203065857

1. 7/50 of the albums on AOTY ended up being nominated for Grammys AT ALL. Also, a lot of reputed publications aren’t factored into the AOTY score (such as Paper Magazine – one of the most popular culture-based magazines in the USA -where Caution was listed as THE best album of 2018)
2. Most of the year-end lists Caution was mentioned on are listed on its Wikipedia page. Hip-Hop DX ranked it as the 4th best R&B Album of 2018, Billboard ranked it as the 3rd best R&B album of 2018 and Rated R&B listed it as the #1 R&B album of the year.September 9, 2019 at 12:51 pm #1203065933

I believe Mariah will get nominated but I’m not certain if she could secure a win.September 9, 2019 at 10:25 pm #1203066880
“Caution” is Mariah’s best reviewed album of the decade. She regained her credibility as a songwriter. A nomination could and SHOULD happen.

Honey; this is no shade, the Grammys have never been fond of Mariah Carey. She could get snubbed.
