Does anyone know if “Lovely Day” by Jose James & Lalah Hathaway qualifies for the Grammy this year?
What about anything else by either of the two artists?
Lovely Day/Lean On Me were released before the eligibility period. I looked around and didn’t find anything that would qualify for either of them
July 8, 2019 at 1:23 pm #1202966456Okay since the submissions deadline is today, these are my final album predictions (based on everything that’s been released at the moment. I’ve put an asterisk next to my top 3/ front-runner candidates)

Release date in the early AugustJuly 10, 2019 at 9:10 pm #1202970209Lucky Daye deserves some recognition. Painted is one of the best albums of the year.
July 11, 2019 at 12:40 am #1202970368Lucky Daye is getting lots of buzz. He’s this year’s Daniel Caesar.
Speaking of Daniel Caesar, I don’t think he will be cancelled. I think he could still land a nomination or two this year. Artists say and do stupid shit all the time, and they still get Grammy recognition.

Daniel Caesar’s album was a non-event commercially, and wasn’t received well critically (even by his own standards). A nomination wouldn’t be impossible, but it’s unlikely.

July 11, 2019 at 8:15 am #1202970686I feel like Daniel’s best chance at a nomination is his song with Brandy.
July 13, 2019 at 10:53 am #1202973809How ya’ll feel about Monica’s chances with “Commitment” Its a Decent vocal. She should have won for “Everything To Me” and Still Standing” back in the day.
July 15, 2019 at 11:05 am #1202975903Lucky Daye has been popping up all over the place lately. I hope it’s not too little too late for him because his effort produced a very strong R&B album. He had lots of standouts but not sure about the marketing push. Sad to say, but I think he could have benefitted immensely with having a high profile collab (like Drake) or remix to one of his songs. He needed more exposure.
Sadly he may join a LONG LONG list of artists that should have been nominated in the R&B field.
R&B name checking and rubber stamping is out of control these last 10 years
July 17, 2019 at 6:58 am #1202981103wondering where Beyoncé Lion King: the Gift will land, think shell submitted to Urban contemp Album?
July 17, 2019 at 7:00 am #1202981105Im thinking Monica has a decent shot at R&B song,
July 18, 2019 at 1:37 am #1202982396If Anderson Paak is going to submit a song into whatever category it’ll be Make It Better Not Tints. I would underestimate Jojis Slow Dancing In The Dark…
July 19, 2019 at 11:02 am #1202985354R&B Album
- Mariah Carey (Caution)
- Ella Mai (self-titled): before Billie Eilish happened, Ella was my #1 contender for Best New Artist, but I still feel like she’ll be nominated. But last year she beat Childish Gambino & H.E.R., so who knows.
I frankly don’t have other strong contenders in mind
Urban Contemporary
- Anderson .Paak (Ventura)
- Beyoncé (The Gift)
- Lizzo (Cuz I Love You): should be in Pop but we been knew that the Grammys are racist. I feel like she might be snubbed from specific fields like Janelle last year.
- Khalid (Free Spirit)
- Solange (When I Get Home)
: family reunion.
imagine Mariah Carey & Beyoncé winning Grammys together in 2020.
R&B Song
- Anderson .Paak (TBD)
- Mariah Carey (With You)
- Ella Mai (Shot Clock): Trip is not eligible this year.
- Khalid (Talk)
- Solange (TBD): her album did not spawn any singles, so I don’t know what songs she will submit.
R&B Performance
- Anderson .Paak (TBD)
- Beyoncé (Before I Let Go)
- Mariah Carey (With You)
- Khalid (Talk)
- Lizzo (Juice): imo it does not fit this genre, but she will not be nominated in the Pop field.

Ella Mai is not eligible for Best New Artist; she is already a Grammy winner.
And “Trip” is eligible.
July 19, 2019 at 11:25 am #1202985400Slow Dancing in the Dark is not eligible.
