I did not see a thread for R&B Performance
Toni Braxton, “Long As I Live”
The Carters, “Summer”
Lalah Hathaway, “Y O Y”
H.E.R., “Best Part [ft. Daniel Caesar]”
PJ Morton, “First Began”Will this be a fight among The Carters, Toni Braxton and Lalah Hathaway?

If Toni steals some votes from Lalah(veteran female solo artist just like her), H.E.R. wins easily. I don’t see the Carters winning and I don’t even know PJ Morton, so…
ReplyCopy URLDecember 26, 2018 at 12:50 pm #1202710557Summer is definitely not Grammy worthy. I think H.E.R might win several grammys this year. The fact that she made it to the TOP20 to be nominated for AoTY shows a decent support among the academy.

PJ Morton has been a member of Maroon 5 since 2012.

(really, I’m not joking)
ReplyCopy URLDecember 26, 2018 at 2:04 pm #1202710669I want Toni to win but I think Best Part is the song to beat. I also wouldnt be disappointed if SUMMER wins here and Miguel wins Urban Contemp album. SUMMER >> Everything Is Love.

Additionally, Lalah Hathaway has won Grammys 4 out of the past 5 years (only once in this category though). They clearly REALLY like her… but I feel like she has been over-awarded.
There isn’t a strong contender like in the last 4 years. “Best Part” is technically the biggest “hit” as well. But The Carters are the biggest artists nominated.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2019 at 2:39 pm #1202749589The thing about The Carters is that when they’re undeniable, they’re undeniable. However, when there’s another strong option, they easily lose.
“Summer” is such an afterthought track, whereas “Best Part” is definitely known well enough, even if you don’t know the artists.
The Carters will win Urban Contemporary because their competition is much weaker there, but here one of the Urban AC smashes will win, and “Best Part” just fits the bill the most.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 26, 2019 at 2:51 pm #1202749603Also, “Y O Y” is definitely not great as “Something,” which deserved its win in hindsight. That won’t win either.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 28, 2019 at 2:09 pm #1202753158I like how everyone said that Best Part is H.E.R.’s song when in reality its Daniel Caesar’s song. H.E.R. is just the featured artist on the song.

That’s how it’s credited at the Grammys, and “Best Part” is on both albums. They both have equal parts.
