I did not see a thread for R&B Performance
Toni Braxton, “Long As I Live”
The Carters, “Summer”
Lalah Hathaway, “Y O Y”
H.E.R., “Best Part [ft. Daniel Caesar]”
PJ Morton, “First Began”
Will this be a fight among The Carters, Toni Braxton and Lalah Hathaway?December 26, 2018 at 12:48 pm #1202710554
H.E.R. vs Lalah
If Toni steals some votes from Lalah(veteran female solo artist just like her), H.E.R. wins easily. I don’t see the Carters winning and I don’t even know PJ Morton, so…December 26, 2018 at 12:50 pm #1202710557
Summer is definitely not Grammy worthy. I think H.E.R might win several grammys this year. The fact that she made it to the TOP20 to be nominated for AoTY shows a decent support among the academy.December 26, 2018 at 12:56 pm #1202710574
H.E.R is taking this one.December 26, 2018 at 1:02 pm #1202710587
Honey, Daniel Caeser/H.E.R. is NOT winning here. It’s between Toni Braxton and Lalah Hathaway. Legend vs. R&B darling.December 26, 2018 at 2:04 pm #1202710669
I want Toni to win but I think Best Part is the song to beat. I also wouldnt be disappointed if SUMMER wins here and Miguel wins Urban Contemp album. SUMMER >> Everything Is Love.December 26, 2018 at 3:01 pm #1202710711
“Best Part” is taking this.January 26, 2019 at 1:26 pm #1202749500
“Best Part” by Album of the Year nominee H.E.R. deserves to win. But will it??? Is there a chance voters are going to just checkmark vote for Beyonce and Jay-Z???
Additionally, Lalah Hathaway has won Grammys 4 out of the past 5 years (only once in this category though). They clearly REALLY like her… but I feel like she has been over-awarded.
There isn’t a strong contender like in the last 4 years. “Best Part” is technically the biggest “hit” as well. But The Carters are the biggest artists nominated.January 26, 2019 at 2:39 pm #1202749589
The thing about The Carters is that when they’re undeniable, they’re undeniable. However, when there’s another strong option, they easily lose.
“Summer” is such an afterthought track, whereas “Best Part” is definitely known well enough, even if you don’t know the artists.
The Carters will win Urban Contemporary because their competition is much weaker there, but here one of the Urban AC smashes will win, and “Best Part” just fits the bill the most.January 26, 2019 at 2:45 pm #1202749597
Beyonce has lost over 40 Grammys- she is not Adele! Best Part is probably taking itJanuary 26, 2019 at 2:51 pm #1202749603
Also, “Y O Y” is definitely not great as “Something,” which deserved its win in hindsight. That won’t win either.January 28, 2019 at 1:45 pm #1202753140
I really hate “Boo’d Up” didnt make the line up here
