Hi all,
I’m going start working on adding Record/Song of the Year to the predictions center. As with Album of the Year, I’ll add to the predictions center as the eligibility period progresses and new songs are released. But there are probably already released or announced songs that I’ve missed from my preliminary list, and maybe something I’ve included that may not actually be eligible. Any additions you can suggest?

A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera, “Fall on Me”June 9, 2020 at 3:07 pm #1203524273I didn’t include Tones and I’s “Dance Monkey” because it looks like it was released too early to qualify, unless there’s an alternate/remix version she could submit.
According to this article by long-time Grammy pundit Paul Grein, “The Recording Academy allows tracks to compete if they were released in the current or previous eligibility year, provided a) they weren’t entered in the Grammy process previously and b) they weren’t included on an album that won a Grammy.” Why not just go ahead and include “Dance Monkey” for now? It can be removed later if it’s not submitted and/or eligible, right?
Anyway, some other contenders:
Ashe – Moral of the Story (not sure if original is eligible, but a live version has been released that definitely is)

Travis Scott – Highest in the RoomJune 10, 2020 at 12:01 pm #1203526074Hi Daniel, the Recording Academy released extensive guidelines on what is and isn’t eligible today, and “Dance Monkey” – assuming it was not submitted last year – should be eligible since it was released on an EP that came out in last year’s eligibility period:
A track or single from a previous year’s album is eligible in the General, Pop, Dance, Gospel/CCM, Rock, R&B, Rap, Country, and American Roots Music Fields provided the recording was not entered as a track or single the previous year and provided the album did not win a GRAMMY in a performance category.

Mr. Morale & The Big SteppersJune 15, 2020 at 2:01 pm #1203534798Thanks all! I’ll add in “Dance Monkey,” and a few of those others suggestions pending official word once the ballots are out. I’m hoping to get Record/Song of the Year launched within the next week or two (I need to add many candidates into the system). Best New Artist will take a little longer since that category got a little more complicated with the new rules saying it’s a subjective judgment of the recording academy whether or not an artist is new.

Mr. Morale & The Big SteppersJune 17, 2020 at 3:31 pm #1203539304Whew! I managed to get Record and Song of the Year up faster than expected. Those categories are live now. Let me know if you guys see anything on the Song of the Year list that doesn’t belong, like covers that wouldn’t be eligible for songwriting.
