IGAKOOY didn’t come from critically acclaimed multi-platinum albums, though.

I feel like IGAKOOY falls in the same bracket as “Please Read the Letter” and “Here We Go Again,” but they were accompanied by chart hitting albums. Love for Sale is a nothing-level album. I hope they lose both categories, but we know that isn’t happening. Sympathy goes a long way at the Grammys, particularly for older artists.

The more I see charts as an argument against someone it makes me want to laugh

It’s funny how you have an issue with people mentioning charts, as if you haven’t paid attention to the Grammys ever.

Even if you take charts out of the equation, it would still be a forgettable win based off the sympathy narrative. Oh well.

I wasn’t even referring to what you had said. And I never said I had an issue with the mentioning of charts, I just think it’s naive to use charts to make your predictions.

When was the last time someone won a general field Grammy because of sympathy?
You’re acting like AC/DC and Paul McCartney dominate these categories every year. Not even David Bowie could get in there when he made a critically acclaimed album about his own death.

Once again COMMITTEES WERE PLACED. David Bowie could’ve easily been BLOCKED. Tony Gaga are literally parallels of past Albums that have won AOTY/ROTY based on an artists last time ever making music. Idk why y’all are acting so oblivious to the fact that they can actually win.

They’re not going to give Tony a sympathy Grammy; there’s nothing to feel bad about. If they give him the award, they’re doing so as a send off and as a thank you for such an amazingly long and iconic career. The sympathy thing is just offensive lol. Idk why so many of you default to “they feel bad so they’ll throw him a bone” as if the guy isn’t Tony Bennet.

Thankfully the Engineered Album and Music Video awards will be announced at the pre show. If they win both of those, they are sweeping.

The more I over analyze nominations, the more I realize “I Get A Kick Out of You” could win. This is the last time voters can award Tony Bennett. They may go crazy & make him sweep. Just like veterans used to do. It’s very possible.

…which is essentially the same thing, but some won’t admit that.

Not sure how sympathy would have come into play regarding AC/DC or Paul McCartney. But they could have easily been blocked by the panel. Who knows?

And I’m pretty sure David Bowie was blocked by the panel, but even he ended up winning four Grammys after he died when he only won a measly Music Video award back during his artistic and commercial peak. Speaking of Music Video, if Tony/Gaga wins that, then we know the Grammys are on some bullshit.

It’s not, though. Words have meanings, and nuance exists. Sympathy implies they feel bad for him, but what is there to feel bad for? The dude has had a stellar career and life. What some people won’t admit is that Tony deserves a send off like that, and said send off would be based on the merits of his career and accomplishments as opposed to “poor old man is dying”. It would be no different from giving someone a lifetime achievement award. Stans on GD only have a problem with it because their faves may not get the top prize.

Don’t wanna get too controversial but I’d imagine there are few voters feeling bad about a man dying of alzheimers.

    Johnny Depp is a wifebeater.

Lol. It’s funny how some of you have faith in the voters and don’t think there are some voters who won’t feel obligated to vote for someone because they are ill. But I’m not even going to go into that too deeply because I don’t want to disrespect Tony.

And you’re just basically saying everything I said but being politically correct about it. Like I said before, they can give Tony the “proper send off” with other awards. Giving him a bunch of big trophies is a reach and giving him Music Video is most definitely pushing it. The only reason why some don’t have an issue with it is because it would benefit Gaga and increase her Grammy count. But it’s likely to happen, and it’s just something we will have to deal with it. Still sucks.

ABBA deserve this as a reward for an unparalleled musical career. Coming back after 4o years with such amazing music is nothing to sneeze at. I hope they pull through.
