Lol. It’s funny how some of you have faith in the voters and don’t think there are some voters who won’t feel obligated to vote for someone because they are ill. But I’m not even going to go into that too deeply because I don’t want to disrespect Tony. And you’re just basically saying everything I said but being politically correct about it. Like I said before, they can give Tony the “proper send off” with other awards. Giving him a bunch of big trophies is a reach and giving him Music Video is most definitely pushing it. The only reason why some don’t have an issue with it is because it would benefit Gaga and increase her Grammy count. But it’s likely to happen, and it’s just something we will have to deal with it. Still sucks.

I think it’s incredibly naive of you to say that people are only okay with Tony performing well because of Gaga. And this “proper send off” thing is just a stretch to say you want them to lose. It’s a great album, and the last one of a legend, it’s getting more than just BTPVA and BPDGP.

Don’t wanna get too controversial but I’d imagine there are few voters feeling bad about a man dying of alzheimers.

We just view it differently. I think there’s definitely a narrative surrounding Tony, but I’d like to think it’s one of “let’s celebrate someone for having an amazing career” as opposed to “quick, let’s give him a few awards before he dies”. Maybe that’s the optimist in me lol. I know stans like to think the worst of everything but I don’t view it that way in this case.

As a Gaga fan, I’m not entirely thrilled with Gaga’s first possible GF wins being attached to Tony’s narrative as I would much rather her win the awards on her own merit (I could argue Gaga is contributing to this but that’s a different discussion), but hey, here we are.

TBH, though, giving him a bunch of small awards isn’t really a send off, is it? It would basically be like, “here are the awards you would’ve won either way lol”. When you send someone off, you do it in a big way.

It’s not “naive.” It’s an observation, and a very fair one. I don’t think people would be too thrill with Tony Bennett winning with any other artist or by himself. This is the same man that won AOTY in 1994 and caused the Grammys to create the Blue Ribbon Panel, but I’m referring to the folks here specifically. And I flat out said that I don’t want them to win. I don’t need to hide behind quotes. I think I’ve been pretty frank here.

At least we can agree to disagree. lol

It’s not, though. Words have meanings, and nuance exists. Sympathy implies they feel bad for him, but what is there to feel bad for? The dude has had a stellar career and life. What some people won’t admit is that Tony deserves a send off like that, and said send off would be based on the merits of his career and accomplishments as opposed to “poor old man is dying”. It would be no different from giving someone a lifetime achievement award. Stans on GD only have a problem with it because their faves may not get the top prize.

I’m starting to think ABBA could upset because lord knows when they’ll be nominated again… They’re in my top 3 alongside Tony & Gaga and Silk Sonic.

Don’t give me hope for an ABBA upset… I had accepted they were dead last.

Please sign this petition to help the movement to revoke Dr. Luke’s Grammy nominations. He should not affect the success of Doja, but he should also not be awarded himself. Marilyn Manson’s nominations were rightfully rescinded, and his should be also.

Yeah, no, I’m not 12 years old. I think Tony deserves it over pop acts who’ve only been around for a few years and will be gone in a few years lol.

Although I can see Tony x Gaga sweeping, I feel that the Academy is going to shake things up for the Grammys next month. Since there were many changes, that is a possibly, but that’s just my feeling lol.

Didn’t they announce somewhere that voting membership had expanded substantially (as well as getting rid of committees)? Maybe this year will be hard to predict.

According to Billboard, they added nearly 1400 voting members.

“This is the result of an aggressive push on the academy’s part to expand and diversify its membership. The academy had invited 2,321 people to join its ranks. A total of 1,722–74%–accepted their invitations. The 1,722 new members include both voting and non-voting “professional members.”

I just hope the voters don’t do an LFS overkill, and actually give this award to Happier Than Ever. It is the record of the year; a masterclass on how to produce a song.
