I don’t think Billie deserves the backlash and weight that would come with winning ROTY consecutively three times against arguably better competition. If she didn’t win last year, then sure, I think she’d be on much stronger footing to win this time around. In this lineup, another will win be a challenge.

I would be absolutely Happy with Olivia (aka the face of 2021) winning SOTY, ROTY and Best New Artist and TonyGaga winning AOTY

Please sign this petition to help the movement to revoke Dr. Luke’s Grammy nominations. He should not affect the success of Doja, but he should also not be awarded himself. Marilyn Manson’s nominations were rightfully rescinded, and his should be also.

They rescinded one of Marilyn Manson’s nominations, he’s still credited on Album of the Year for Donda. I don’t want they Grammy’s celebrating people like Manson or Dr. Luke, but I think stripping Dr. Luke of his nominations sends the wrong message. Voters knew exactly who they were supporting when they voted for his projects and clearly they didn’t care. All this would do is send the message to people that if they work with him they can still see success and don’t have to associate with him when it’s convenient. And yes I know Doja is in a contract that was signed before Kesha’s allegations and that her particular participation with him requires nuance, I’m not here to judge her or try and hinder her specific success.

I’m with Olivia for SOTY and ROTY, she has a strong narrative and a big campaign in addition to the hit. I also feel that Tony and ABBA’s narratives clash in ROTY which can make room for Olivia.

Are you sure that Marilyn Manson has been removed from Album of the Year? Some entertainment/music news sites are saying that he is still nominated.

The Recording Academy has removed Marilyn Manson as a Grammy nominee for best rap song, but the shock rocker continues to be a nominee for album of the year for his role as a songwriter on Kanye West’s DONDA. (The removal in best rap song is unrelated to abuse allegations against Manson.)

    https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/marilyn-manson-loses-2022-grammy-nomination-changes-1235005273/

The Dr. Luke nominations are a direct result of the Grammys own rule changes. In SOTY there is no longer a committee to block him.

Hey, you all wanted to get rid of the committees didn’t you?

In AOTY they changed the rule where previously, the producer, songwriter, featured artist or engineer, needed 33% of the album playing time for a nomination or win. Now they just need to have worked on one track on the nominated album.

This is how we end up with Marilyn Manson, Dr. Luke, Chris Brown and DaBaby (did I miss anyone?) nominated for AOTY, because none of them have credits for 33% of the playing time of the album.

Edit: in addition, at the last minute they decided to increase the number of nominees from 8 to 10, because that would bring Taylor vs Kanye into album of the year to increase the ratings. They knew that would include making Marilyn Manson an AOTY nominee, but they did it anyway.

That’s why it’s important for artists to CHOOSE WISELY who to work with.

Abba will not be stealing votes from Tony because absolutely no one is voting for Abba.

Here is what Harvey Mason, Jr. said about the Marilyn Manson controversy and others:

Recording Academy Removes Marilyn Manson’s Best Rap Song Grammy Nomination
    Daniel Kreps – 2h ago

Marilyn Manson—who, as a co-writer and performer on Kanye West’s Donda, was controversially nominated for a pair of high-profile Grammys despite an ongoing sexual assault investigation—lost one of his nominations Thursday as the Recording Academy revised its list of nominees.

Credited as “Brian Hugh Warner” on West’s “Jail Pt. 2,” Manson previously received songwriting credits—and thus, Grammy nominations—in both the Album of the Year and Best Rap Song categories; however, the New York Times reports that the Recording Academy has since updated the Best Rap Song nomination to recognize the West/Jay-Z collaboration “Jail,” which did not feature Manson as a songwriter, removing his nomination from that category.

However, Manson is still credited as a songwriter and featured artist on Donda up for Album of the Year, making the shock rocker eligible for that award should West’s latest album win that category.

In the past year, more than a dozen women have come forward accusing Manson of psychological or sexual abuse, some of which have resulted in lawsuits. Manson denies the allegations.

Following the outcry from both Manson and Louis C.K. (up for Best Comedy Album) being nominated for Grammys despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against them, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr. addressed the controversy.

“We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria. If it is, they can submit for consideration,” Mason Jr. said. “What we will control is our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets. We’ll take a look at anyone who is asking to be a part of that, asking to be in attendance, and we’ll make our decisions at that point. But we’re not going to be in the business of restricting people from submitting their work for our voters to decide on.”

    Going with LTDO for ROTY/SOTY.

Firstly, the guy on your DP looks so much like Nick from the new “Single All The Way” film on Netflix…I swear. That actor is flipping hot BTW.

Back to the subject matter. This year’s predictions are so difficult but thrilling.

Why didn’t they remove Taylor & co’s songwriting credits for Sour then?

    weren’t they bottom 2?

In the first round voters didn’t care for ABBA. Only lazy ones picked them.

But now that everyone will see their name in the ballot, it’s a different scenario.

In the second round, the “real music, man” voters will go for Tony & Gaga, ABBA, Silk Sonic and Brandi Carlile instead of the millennial/gen Z A-listers that will all split votes.

In the past two years, there was no undeniable “real music, man” pick that could’ve beaten Billie & Finneas.

But anyways, Tony & Gaga are pulling a Plant & Krauss.

I just don’t think ABBA will come in last place. That’s going to be something like Peaches or Kiss Me More.

I’m starting to think ABBA could upset because lord knows when they’ll be nominated again… They’re in my top 3 alongside Tony & Gaga and Silk Sonic.

ABBA is 100% a throwaway nomination. They barely made the nominations list and didn’t get nominated in the pop field. What’s more, this is their first Grammy nomination as a group, and Mamma Mia didn’t win in either musical theater or visual media categories.

You’re overthinking this. There’s not going to be a sudden outpouring of support for them.

In the second round, the “real music, man” voters will go for Tony & Gaga, ABBA, Silk Sonic and Brandi Carlile instead of the millennial/gen Z A-listers that will all split votes.

The “real music” voters are not going to go for ABBA. ABBA are a capital-p pop music group. Shiny, hyper-commercial, glossy top 40 music. They just happened to be doing it decades before most of the other nominees.

I’m sorry, I just thought some voters could see it as some sort of “last opportunity” and reward them, à la Nas, Tanya Tucker and (possibly) DMX.

I didn’t mean that they’re frontrunners or anything, I just think they’re more likely to win thanks to sympathy only than several fellow filler nominees.

I guess sampling credits or whatever is permissible within the new eligibility rules now. That’s separate from this discussion though about alleged sexual abusers being allowed to compete for awards consideration or not.
