I guess sampling credits or whatever is permissible within the new eligibility rules now. That’s separate from this discussion though about alleged sexual abusers being allowed to compete for awards consideration or not.

The only real connection here is the Grammy rule change that allows nominations (and wins) for someone that only contributed to one or two tracks on the album (it used to be 33% for AOTY).

But since this is the Record of the Year thread, neither discussion belongs here as Marilyn Manson and Dr. Luke (or Taylor Swift for that matter) aren’t nominated in ROTY.

The question was asked, so I answered it. I didn’t know what Swift’s role was in Rodrigo’s album, but that the rules change now allowed her nomination there. Regardless, even if Dr. Luke isn’t nominated for ROTY, he’s tangentially involved in anything Doja Cat does, so the conversation is perfectly apt and fine in this thread.

They have 1 career nomination that they got on a last minute expansion. This isn’t happening

I’m as shocked as anyone that ABBA got this nomination but they did secure that final 10th spot and they did have more voter support than 1,162 other ROTY entries. Many definately voted for I Still Have Faith In You in the nomination process and it will have support in the final voting so I’m not going to be as dismissive as some by counting it out entirely. It’s a long-shot, sure but there’s nothing else like it up for ROTY.

It getting nominated has a lot to do with the alphabetical advantage of being named ABBA. And getting voted in the bottom 2 is a death sentence. Predicting anyone in the bottom 2 of each General field to win makes no sense. Especially considering they don’t have pop support, and their only narrative hope is the nostalgia choice, and that would be Tony and Gaga before them.

Here is what Harvey Mason, Jr. said about the Marilyn Manson controversy and others: Recording Academy Removes Marilyn Manson’s Best Rap Song Grammy Nomination Daniel Kreps – 2h ago Marilyn Manson—who, as a co-writer and performer on Kanye West’s Donda, was controversially nominated for a pair of high-profile Grammys despite an ongoing sexual assault investigation—lost one of his nominations Thursday as the Recording Academy revised its list of nominees. Credited as “Brian Hugh Warner” on West’s “Jail Pt. 2,” Manson previously received songwriting credits—and thus, Grammy nominations—in both the Album of the Year and Best Rap Song categories; however, the New York Times reports that the Recording Academy has since updated the Best Rap Song nomination to recognize the West/Jay-Z collaboration “Jail,” which did not feature Manson as a songwriter, removing his nomination from that category. However, Manson is still credited as a songwriter and featured artist on Donda up for Album of the Year, making the shock rocker eligible for that award should West’s latest album win that category. In the past year, more than a dozen women have come forward accusing Manson of psychological or sexual abuse, some of which have resulted in lawsuits. Manson denies the allegations. Following the outcry from both Manson and Louis C.K. (up for Best Comedy Album) being nominated for Grammys despite the allegations of sexual misconduct against them, Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason, Jr. addressed the controversy. “We won’t look back at people’s history, we won’t look at their criminal record, we won’t look at anything other than the legality within our rules of, is this recording for this work eligible based on date and other criteria. If it is, they can submit for consideration,” Mason Jr. said. “What we will control is our stages, our shows, our events, our red carpets. We’ll take a look at anyone who is asking to be a part of that, asking to be in attendance, and we’ll make our decisions at that point. But we’re not going to be in the business of restricting people from submitting their work for our voters to decide on.”

Oh wow, basically all they’re going to do is the same thing that was done with Morgan Wallen in every ceremony but I’m still annoyed that they want to keep playing neutrality after the whole victim support thing in 2018 and Kesha’s performance, it has no congruence.

    Hi.

I stand by the LFS = Genius Loves Company comparison. LTDO is 2nd tho and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it win either.

Record of the year in regards to song quality, pop culture impact, and overall song structure and sound should only go to Billie, Olivia or silk sonic in my opinion. Kiss me more and montero are cool too but won’t win
