April 30, 2021 at 1:26 pm #1204236643They are considering it. No Grammy spokesperson has said anything confirming that they are ending the committees.
Either way, people will still complain.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 1:28 pm #1204236646It does feel like at times the commitee really favors a specific winner. In the other thread I already mentioned keeping Janelle Monae out for The Carters and keeping Roddy Ricch out for Nas. But also AOTY this year. Besides the weird The Weeknd and Roddy Ricch album snubs, if they had let Fiona, Harry or any country act in, it probably wouldn’t have ended in a Folklore victory either. It did really feel a bit set-up for her.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 1:32 pm #1204236654So how would this solve a situation like The Weeknd getting shut out of a non-committee field such as Pop?
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 1:42 pm #1204236675Honey, even Stevie Wonder can see that the blue-ribbon committee set-up a Folklore win. PUKE!
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 1:51 pm #1204236686Honestly feel it is unfair to artists like Ed Sheeran who were shut out on purpose during their biggest era to prevent a sweep. But then any change is to avoid wrongs done in the past so be it.

The Weeknd still would’ve been a tough general field contender regardless I guess. Both EIW and Folklore turns out, won without winning the Pop categories. Blinding Lights at least could’ve had potential or have been a close runner-up.

eiw and folklore both had strong alt appeal, which Abel didn’t have. I doubt he would have made the top 8 in any GF categories, unless the R&B voters rallied around him.

YUCK!
These committees are a good and bad thing. I do NOT give a shit if they keep or eliminate them.

Says the one person who posts every single day. Gurl, please! You love the drama.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 2:36 pm #1204236786Anyways… I honestly do not know how the hell to feel about this. I have two views:
1. The nominations review committee is one large “opinion” and shouldn’t have the power to knock off thousands of other “opinions.”
2. In contrast, they prevent shit tracks from touching the Grammys (sometimes).
I really don’t know how to feel.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 2:41 pm #1204236798Well never mind, They did it. They really got rid of the NRC in “all non-craft categories” and extended the eligibility deadline to September 30th…

that was their best choice.
the comittees got plenty of shitty choices over the years but also incredibly inspired picks like Melodrama, Dirty Computer, Black Pumas, Jacob Collier, Brandi Carlile and well, basically giving H.E.R. the mainstream spotlight.
and im pretty sure we’d get plenty of uglier choices if we were left with general votes picks (who knows if bieber wouldve entered GF this year). so all in all i’m fine with them even if they 100% set a folklore win by leaving acts like Fiona and Abel out.
ReplyCopy URLApril 30, 2021 at 2:58 pm #1204236856Does this mean we’ll see more Yummy/Changes but in the GF? I don’t know how to feel about this.
