Honey, the Grammy ratings will still be shit.  No one watches TV any more.  Plus, people know how shady the Grammys are.

Hi all. My first post on the music forum after reading it for a while.

My thoughts on the recent Grammy changes; What one feels about the committee depends on whether you think it did more good than bad. I personally thought it did just well. There were a couple of strange choices here and there but overall it helped (commercially) low-key artists and gain more prominence on an international platform. This year, I found two of my favourite projects, HAIM’s album and H.E.R’s I can’t breathe because of the grammys. I probably wouldn’t have checked them out myself. This has happened over the years, so many people find so much good music and mv’s because of the grammys. I hate to think about the grammys becoming a popularity contest. The BRP has also kept out some questionable pop nominees out of the general field (changes and chromatica this year) which I was glad for.

Anyway, I agree with user @Ghost’s suggestions some pages ago. Five straight vote noms and three committees picks. Great suggestion. Feasible and balanced. I’d also be lying if I said I wasn’t super excited about this year though. It’s interesting to see how a straight vote will play out. I really hope it’s not the same five mediocre commercial pop albums in AOTY but I’m hoping to get surprised.

Prepared to be surprised bestie 😁

If they want to do this, they need to at least add a rule that allows them to disqualify artists who engage in conduct antithetical to the Academy’s “values”. I do not want to see Morgan Wallen for example in the General Field. And it’s now likely to happen because there isn’t a committee.

They legit published a rule contrary to that, which made “Tyson Trax” or whatever a Grammy nominee.

They changed because the backlash was widespread and deafening. They obviously want more than you queens on here and Twitter watching because they end up with disastrous ratings otherwise as seen with the recent ratings. They tried to pander to you queens this year with their nominations, and no one watched the show. Their reputation has already been ruined, but that is their best attempt if they want to be popular again

Yes, the Grammys solution to their ratings problem is to nominate chart-topping bullshit. Applause, applause!

The Weeknd is in for a rude awakening. Blinding Lights missed Pop Solo Performance on a straight vote, so I’m not sure why he’s pushing the whole “secret committees blocked me” thing.

    Gurl, this.

Excerpt from Grammy Chair (Interim President) Harvey Mason Jr Interview :

    https://variety.com/2021/music/news/grammy-harvey-mason-elimination-secret-nominating-committees-interview-1234964395/

“That means everybody can vote in the general field — out of around 12,000 voters, a certain percentage will vote, and that percentage will directly decide who the nominees are in the general field. Then outside of the General Field, you’ve got three fields to choose from, and in those fields you can vote in 10 categories. So that cuts down the number of votes to whoever feels they are experts in that field: say pop, R&B and hip-hop, or whatever. So the number is going to continue to decease based on the number of categories you choose to vote in, and that was done specifically to stop “vote grazing” or people following their favorite artist into genres that they don’t really know, like if the biggest pop artist in the world made, say, a folk album.”

I don’t have an issue with this, especially if the general field will end up being mostly pop records. R&B, Hip Hop, Country, etc. deserve to have their fields to themselves. I imagine there has been a lot of voters just voting in fields and picking popular names without actually knowing the fields.

I’m happy for Adele because she won’t be blocked but this means that Taylor Swift will be nominated for AOTY every year lol.

evermore won’t be blocked from AOTY, Gaga will probably had more chances to be nominated for AOTY (ASIB would have been nominated for sure)

Not sure why people are jumping to conclusions about Taylor being nominated every year. She’s really not that liked by the Grammy’s. We expected her to win 3-4 Grammy’s but she won only 1. I’m not even sure that Evermore will make the top 8. It could get in Pop but I kinda doubt it too especially if there are stronger releases. We already have 4 strong contenders: Ariana, Billie, Olivia and Justin Bieber.

Watch Anel start submitting again and backtrack on his stance.

He said he will pause submission till secret committees are removed…he will actually stay true to his stance if he submits now.

Get real!  “Blinding Lights” did NOT miss Best Pop Solo Performance on a straight vote.  We all know some fuckery went down.
