Get real! “Blinding Lights” did NOT miss Best Pop Solo Performance on a straight vote. We all know some fuckery went down.
So you agree that your boy Justin Bieber was part of the riggers and got in over Abel?

May 2, 2021 at 1:17 pm #1204239577I don’t have an issue with this, especially if the general field will end up being mostly pop records. R&B, Hip Hop, Country, etc. deserve to have their fields to themselves. I imagine there has been a lot of voters just voting in fields and picking popular names without actually knowing the fields.
Wait so pop voters were allowed to vote for r&b categories before ? I am confused….I always thought genre categories are voted by genre voters.
And general categories having only pop is a terrible thing because the major complaint has always been how a black artists just win the urban or genre categories never general ones..this certainly reduces chances of a nomination even.

I do not want to pressume or speculate but holy- What the hell
Kind of a compliment because he calls her biggest pop artist..but what I don’t understand is where should Folklore have been submitted(because alt voters aren’t gonna vote for a popular artist is what I am told). I am glad someone who has worked in industry accepts/claims it is not a pop record because I have come across way too many people claiming it is pop.
ReplyCopy URLMay 2, 2021 at 1:57 pm #1204239621Not sure why people are jumping to conclusions about Taylor being nominated every year. She’s really not that liked by the Grammy’s. We expected her to win 3-4 Grammy’s but she won only 1. I’m not even sure that Evermore will make the top 8. It could get in Pop but I kinda doubt it too especially if there are stronger releases. We already have 4 strong contenders: Ariana, Billie, Olivia and Justin Bieber.
Evermore is not pop. And Lover, and probably Speak Now, would have absolutely been have nominated if it wasn’t for the BRP.

ReplyCopy URLMay 2, 2021 at 2:24 pm #1204239660Funny how Willman’s 2019 article made a case for Taylor Swift’s Lover to be nominated.
I fully agree that snubbing Tyler the Creator was a travesty.

I don’t think he was talking about Taylor Swift.
ReplyCopy URLMay 2, 2021 at 2:38 pm #1204239680The Weeknd is in for a rude awakening. Blinding Lights missed Pop Solo Performance on a straight vote, so I’m not sure why he’s pushing the whole “secret committees blocked me” thing.
Just because he was snubbed in Pop it doesn’t mean that he would have been snubbed in the general field. This year alone we saw that the General Field had different choices for the Pop winners (Taylor/Dua or Billie/Lizzo the year before)
Some weird things have happened in the pop categories in the last years: Beck, Backstreet Boys, Christina Aguilera/Demi Lovato, Tony Bennett. That doesn’t mean those random pop choices made it to the top 20 of the General Field over Perfect Duet for example.
ReplyCopy URLMay 2, 2021 at 3:36 pm #1204239772so AOTY nominees should probably look like this:
- AC/DC
- AJR
- Anuel AA
- Anitta
- Bad Bunny
- Jon Batiste
- Justin Bieber
- Big Sean
I’m screaming at “Anitta” 💀💀

May 2, 2021 at 5:45 pm #1204239877Will Scooter manipulate the GF with multiple nominations for Bieber? Oh well at least Peaches is good unlike Yummy
I am not sure why some just don’t get it ….. Scooter is no longer in control. He can be overruled since he is ONLY 1 of many board members now for HYBE. HYBE bought out Scooter. He asked $1 Billion for his company and HYBE was the one willing to pay more than it was worth.
BTW that makes HYBE the largest entertainment company now.

That’s just the business side of stuff, scooter braun himself is a pretty wealthy and influential person in the industry. He has a lot of big artists in his cohort.
But this “Scooter Braun manipulated grammys” is a reach if you ask me, I don’t think he pulled any strings behind the scenes to get Justin Bieber nominated. Bieber is a big star, voting was low, his name was up in the list, he just got namechecked everywhere in pop. But only as a filler. And I don’t think scooter braun is nearly influential enough to play the biggest music award show to his whim ..
ReplyCopy URLMay 3, 2021 at 11:03 am #1204240796All black artists should boicot the grammy and never submit again, but there are a lot of them that still want their validation. However, grammys will become irrelevant at some point.
ReplyCopy URLMay 3, 2021 at 11:10 am #1204240815Honey, that’s what I’ve been saying. Black artists definitely should NOT submit or even attend the shady Grammys again. Unfortunately, artists believe a Grammy is the be-all-end-all.
ReplyCopy URLMay 3, 2021 at 12:18 pm #1204240975Some artists put more validation in a Grammy than BET, Soul Train, or Image Awards. Why do Black artists continue to complain about an institution that wasn’t built for us when we have our own shows?
