Some artists put more validation in a Grammy than BET, Soul Train, or Image Awards. Why do Black artists continue to complain about an institution that wasn’t built for us when we have our own shows?
Well, the Grammys are sold as the highest honor in music. Moreover, the BET structure at times feels so unorganized, like, we could have one award in this ceremony and in the next it’s gone. Stuff like that.
Definitely, as music awards go, the Grammys is as pro as it gets.
ReplyCopy URLMay 3, 2021 at 10:10 pm #1204241670Get real! “Blinding Lights” did NOT miss Best Pop Solo Performance on a straight vote. We all know some fuckery went down.
Give. this. shit. a. rest.
All black artists should boicot the grammy and never submit again, but there are a lot of them that still want their validation. However, grammys will become irrelevant at some point.
And why the exact hell should that happen? Look, it’s one thing to get snubbed, it’s another not to even give it a shot. By God, if this about The Weeknd, I have no response. He’s just a pissed brat in my opinion. There have been bigger “sNuBs.”
But if this about the likes of Kendrick and Beyonce who’ve arguably deserved AOTY, with the former getting “robbed” twice imo, I fully understand your point. But personally, I feel boycotting isn’t the solution.
In the “Unpopular Opinions” thread, I wrote about why I feel accolades (acclaim and awards) are important, in case you want to read that/ It’s one thing to be a good artist. But one without notable acclaim (either awards or critics) has higher chances of being forgotten easily.
I want to take you to say 2088, and your kids (or grandkids) wanna listen to what was hot in your time. Do you seriously think they’re gonna have the solid strength to listen to over hundreds and thousands of albums? Maybe they’ll know what was hot because you told them. But the average kid is probably either going to go to either “Grammy Award for Album of the Year” or something like “Pitchfork‘s Best Albums of the 2020s.”
Again, I understand the reason 100%. I just don’t feel an outright boycott would solve much.

Sadly, these award shows don’t hold as much weight as the Grammys because it is the first of its kind. And most of the award shows are white-owned now.

Fiona Apple is kind of in a league of her own.
– Didn’t attend because she said it would risk her breaking her sobriety
– Publicly called the Grammys out on their bullshit about nominating Dr. Luke as Tyson Trax despite having had Kesha cry on stage singing “Praying” only 3 years prior
– Still managed to win 2 Grammys for the gem that is Fetch The Bolt Cutters, her first album in eight years
I love her so much lol.FYC: 64th Annual GRAMMY AwardsReplyCopy URLBillie Eilish: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Pop Vocal Album

Fiona never have cared about these awards

ReplyCopy URLMay 4, 2021 at 7:41 am #1204242122Beyonce showed up because she was obviously told she was going to win and set a record for max wins. I mean ppl would care if you become the recording artist to win maximum grammys.

He doubled down and basically said “Fuck your little rule change” lmao

Success is the best revenge anyways. Abel never needs to submit to the Grammys again.

The votes were tech locked before she said all that so… you never know? Regardless, even if she became Donald Trump overnight, she still would’ve won. Fetch is priceless and must go down in history as one of the GOATs of music.

They should just rename the Best Music Film category to Best Music Documentary because that seems to be the only shit that be winning in there.

Exactly, no surprise Homecoming won but Lemondade and BIK didn’t.
I think Billies doc might be a front runner
