What an awful decision. Are they really trying to turn the most prestigious award in music into the VMAs?

Also good the eligibility period is back to september 30th. it was so useless to make it a month shorter in 2019 just because the oscars were coming sooner. Grammys had plenty of january ceremonies before and that never bothered them.

Ending the year in august makes the nominees feel too old wbk.

This will be so chaotic. I actually don’t think it’ll be a popularity contest, more like a likeability contest. Bigger names have benefitted from the committees plenty of times, and I think a lot of them might miss the general field now. Ideally we’ll see an even split amongst genre and popularity, but who knows?

This also changes the campaigning game. They need to win over the industry now, not committee members.

A reminder that the NRC was invented after Tony Bennett infamously won AOTY for his MTV Unplugged album and Macarena was up for contention the next year, so the comittee possibly prevented that.

Check many GF picks in the earlier decades and see the popular vote nominations are even more bizarre than what we get now.

The good news is it will increase Evermore chance for AOTY nom. No more fear of getting blocked. Gucci lost yay!

Record of the year : willow
Song of the year : willow
Best pop vocal album : evermore
Best pop solo performance : willow
Best pop duo/group performance : no body no crime (feat. HAIM)

Everyone says “thank you Abel”. Now we will see more often Scooter’s client especially fucking Bieber in general field.

Yes, The Three Tenors being an AOTY nominee was definitely… strange.

At least they still won’t win.

Can anyone explain to me what the Grammy “secret” committees do?

I’m not sure how i feel about this.

“The biggest change is the elimination of nominations review committees in general and genre fields. (The general field is the Big Four categories – album, record and song of the year plus best new artist.) Nominations in these categories will now be determined by a majority, peer-to-peer vote of the Academy’s voting members.”

Isn’t this what made nominations such as Yummy possible? Ugh, i don’t know.

This is a simple solution. In the GF, the final nominees should be the top five vote-getters and the final three should be something that made the top 20 but was picked by the review committee. In the genre categories with review committees, the final five should be three top vote-getters and two-three reviewed picks.

Trusting the entire NARAS to make a non-populist decision with hundreds of submissions is a disaster waiting to happen. It still doesn’t help the fact that The Weeknd failed to get easy nods in Pop, a non-review field.

a mess, I’m all for reducing the NRC’s power over nominations but removing them altogether destroys the chance of seeing any interesting results at all

I agree with someone on the other thread saying they should keep the committee but do a shortlist to reveal who makes it to the top 20. I hope they reconsider cause we all know voters have no taste.

This is also a good idea
