    2016, what an awful year.

It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away.
We have lost one of music’s most revered and prolific visionaries.

A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief.

I hope NARAS gets a very special tribute ready for the next Grammy ceremony. This genius will be profoundly missed.

I’ll be honest, not one of my favourite musicians. And i didn’t know his discography well.
Still, an extremely talented and influent artist, and an interesting human being.

I read somewhere that he said “I’m ready to die”. Glad to know, such as in the case of David Bowie, that he was in control of his existence until the very end.

How sad that the only comment so far is of someone who doesn’t care for his music. Apparently not many here care either. This is one of the greatest names in American music ever.

I became familiar with his music through the Tower of Song tribute album. A great singer and an even better songwriter. A huge loss. A bad week.

“Someone who doesn’t care for his music” is a bit too much but yeah, I had the same reaction. I thought Leonard Cohen was a big cultural phenomenon in USA.

Anyway, i should probably stop listening to new albums since a few days later people die.

Leonard Cohen was a national treasure, a unique artist who touched truth.

I never met the man, but I will always remember him for his kindness. My dear friend battled cancer for over two decades. She always insisted on attending temple alone. It was her time for mediation and spiritual healing. Even in her final days, she adamantly refused for any of us to accompany her. She relied on her fellow worshippers to tend to her needs and comforts.

Each week she would report on the kindnesses bestowed upon her. Of all those who held her hand, walked her to her seat, carried her things, or just put a hand on her in love, she always spoke of the generosity of spirit of Leonard Cohen who regularly attended services. She reported that they never discussed his celebrity or his work. They merely inquired for each other’s health and nurtured one another’s spirit.

Cohen’s death with this week has touched me greatly. I do find comfort in knowing he belonged to a temple where worshippers cared for one another. He was a mensch.
