It’s weird for me that Arctic Monkeys only have 3 nominations on the rock field, almost scandalous. Imagine a world that AM didn’t get Best Rock Album (or Alternative?) nomination and that Do I Wanna Know lost to Lazaretto. Muse, deservedly so, at least got two Grammys home (both Best Rock Album). But still they’re missed on other categories. Let’s be honest, where are the nominations for Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight and Uprising?

    Drones shouldn’t have won

Are Arcade Fire slipping out of contention for Best Alternative Music Album, after the recent allegations about Win Butler?

Perhaps if the album was a career best, people would ignore the allegations, but with Feist pulling out of the tour, things aren’t looking too good.

Of course there are plenty of abusers nominated year after year and perhaps these allegations are not as serious as others. But Arcade Fire have been vocal about social issues in the past and that is something that seems to be part of their brand. This might hurt them more than others.

Atopos visuals are insane and the song should be nominated for the Best Alternative Music Performance category. I’m looking forward to the record!

Mary on a Cross by Ghost became a top40 in UK. Do you think they will submit the slow version instead a new song?

They’re probably the first name in the ballot, so they’re likely not going to miss performance/album categories on a straight vote, unfortunately. But they’re not getting any songwriting nominations.

“Everything Now”, their worst album, didn’t miss. Though the Alternative field is stronger this year than it was in 2018, WE is slightly better than Everything Now and they have never missed an album nomination.

Ozzy Osbourne’s Patient Number 9 is receiving good reviews. I have the title track (featuring Jeff Beck) for rock performance, Degradation Rules (featuring Tony Iommi) for metal performance and Andrew Watt for POTY.

Completely in love with Paramore’s This Is Why! Would it be submitted in Rock or Alternative?

Kate Bush didn’t release a new version of RUTH, so what are your favourites for best alternative performance?

September 30th – The last day of the eligibility period!

Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Cool It Down kinda disappointed me as a full body of work. On the other side, I liked Björk’s Fossora, but it’s not worthy of a Best Alternative Music Album win.

    Best Alternative Music Album

Arcade Fire, Björk, Big Thief and The Smile are locks. The last spot, which I was predicting it would be Yeah Yeah Yeahs, could probably be between Black Country New Road, James Blake, Florence + the Machine and Wet Leg.

In my opinion, it’s between Florence and Wet Leg. Last year, 2 of the 5 nominees of Best Alternative Music Album also received Best New Artist nominations. I really think the Academy will have passion for Wet Leg, those girls are amazing. F+tM, though, may receive their only nomination in this category – the GRAMMYs seems to like them, they have a large fanbase and a better ballot position than Wet Leg. I’m probably sticking with them.

Winner: Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You (Big Thief)

    Best Alternative Music Performance

I guess we will have similar names in here. Arcade Fire’s Unconditional I (Lookout Kid), Björk’s Atopos and Big Thief’s Simulation Swarm are probably locks.

Arctic Monkey’s There’d Better Be A Mirrorball is also very likely to be nominated. The Academy seemed to like their last record, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino, which has a similar sound to the upcoming The Car. They have a great ballot position, the song is beautiful and Alex Turner gives an astonishing vocal performance.

I think the last spot could be between Phoebe Bridger’s Sidelines, Beck’s Old Man, Florence + the Machine’s King, Paramore’s This Is Why, Maggie Roger’s That’s Where I Am, The War On Drug’s I Don’t Live Here Anymore, Wet Leg’s Chaise Lounge or even Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Spitting Off The Edge Of The World.

My favorite track from these is, by far, Spitting Off The Edge Of The World. The song made great numbers on the alt. radio and it’s one of the band’s best singles. They could be rewarded here, but I would say Sidelines is the frontrunner. I don’t like the song, tho.

    Winner: Simulation Swarm (Big Thief)

What do you guys think? Am I missing someone? Who are you predicting? 👇

I feel like Big Thief is being slightly overestimated here. All but one of their albums have missed Alt Album

My thoughts are quite similar, but tweaked slightly. I think that Björk will be the only one nominated in both categories.

    Alternative Music Performance:

Winner – Björk ft. Kasimyn, “Atopos”

Runner Up – Arctic Monkeys, “There’d Better Be A Mirrorball”

    3rd – Phoebe Bridgers, “Sidelines”

4th – Yeah Yeah Yeahs ft. Perfume Genius, “Spitting Off The Edge Of The World”

5th – Paramore, “This Is Why”

    Alternative Music Album:

    Winner – Björk, Fossora

Runner Up – Big Thief, Dragon New Warm Mountain

3rd – The Smile, A Light for Attracting Attention

    4th – Arcade Fire, We

5th – Wet Leg, Wet Leg

No clue, but they performed it with Phoebe at the Grammy Museum
