You mean cause he starts with a “T”? So does Taylor Swift

Taylor was huge during the nomination period and I could even argue that she is was bigger than Anel.

Congratulations to Grammy Winners: Jazmine Sullivan, Doja Cat, SZA and Olivia Rodrigo!

In General Field the BRP snubbed him in all 3 categories to prevent a sweep.

He was always in the R&B categories before, so maybe Pop voters didn’t look for him.

Btw: I honestly think, that “After Hours” should be submitted in Progressive R&B and “Blinding Lights” in R&B Performance/Song…

Well it’s no secret After Hours was submitted to Progressive R&B, and it was moved to Pop. (Which btw the Weeknd wanted in the first place – kudos to his team for not listening to him lol.)

Imo, blinding lights doesnt sound R&B, it sounds like a classic pop song from the 80s

Supposedly HER’s musician father is in the Academy. Connections get you pretty far and leads to others being snubbed.

He’s not, and that has already been proven a lie.

keeping it real, voters did not expect him on pop. therefore the fact that he wasn’t in progressive r&b or any r&b category threw them off. BRP did block him from the GF to avoid a sweep, but pop voters didn’t expect him on pop ballots (hope this makes sense).
Also, for the ones saying “if the reason is because voters got lazy to scroll down to “W”, then how do you explain taylor”. let’s remember that taylor is well known among pop voters, while abel only got 1 pop nomination back in 2015. voters can easily do “ctrl + f” and look for “swift”, and like i said, they weren’t expecting the weeknd in pop.

Y’all are not making any sense. Voters didn’t expect him Pop?? Where did they expect Blinding Lights to compete?? Weeknd has submitted to pop categories multiple times. Yes he gets snubbed a few times (Starboy, I feel it coming..) but Blinding Lights is too big of a record to not even make the top 20 in the General field.

Its funny how posters are saying he shouldn’t have even bothered submitting in Pop or that Blinding Lights is an R&B song and should have been submitted as such. These are nothing more than symptoms of the academy’s ingrained racism and dogged resistance to allowing ANY Black performers to expand their sound outside of “their” categories.

The Weeknd wanted his albums and singles submitted in Pop because guess what? After Hours is a goddamn POP ALBUM. Blinding Lights is a POP single, and The Weeknd is a POP artist. Simple as that. Blinding Lights is the biggest Pop single of last year, its not an R&B song. Its not a “progressive” R&B song. Its good ole fashioned throwback Thursday, 80’s synth glory pop music.

Voters SHOULD have been looking for The Weeknd in the Pop categories. The fact that “seemingly” they weren’t (excuse) or that he was forced to submit to R&B is bullshit

He didn’t get the votes… it’s not that hard?

All the conspiracy theories are complete bullshit, especially the Super Bowl one:

    1. Katy & Gaga both did Super Bowl & Grammys same year.

    2. Grammys & Super Bowl were BOTH on CBS this year, so it’s not even like a network would be mad Super Bowl gets him first or something…

He just missed… People need to realize that, nothing is “locked”. No matter how hard us on GD or media scream about “locks”, voters are people who vote for what they themselves want…

FYI, his chances on this forum were overrated hard. I’ll never forget people saying After Hours could win AOTY 💀 I personally knew there was a very well chance of him missing Pop Vocal Album, and while I thought BL was a lock for nominations, I heavily disagreed with it being a lock for wins like everyone was shouting here.

And people in here saying “Grammys are about connections, he doesn’t have them”… do you know who you’re speaking about? The Weeknd isn’t some indie artist 💀 He’s on arguably the biggest record label, and is already a 3x Grammy winner before, including once in a category where he had frankly no business winning (Starboy over CTRL and Awaken My Love).

Get real!  There was NOT ever any confusion over The Weeknd’s genre placement.
